This guide will walk you through setting up your new site using Heart and Style. The graphic below shows an overview of the blog, which includes a Featured Content slider, Featured Category, your latest posts, and a Featured Posts section.
After activating the theme, the theme will show your recent posts. You can customize this page by following the steps below:
Featured Content Slider
Heart and Style supports Featured Content, which allows you to highlight your most important posts.
The Featured Content slider is located at the top of the blog, just below the header. It will display up to 20 posts that have the tag you designate as your Featured Content tag.
To assign a Featured Content tag, go to Customize → Featured Content and enter a tag of your choice under Tag Name. You can also choose to hide the tag in post meta and tag clouds.
Add the same tag you set in the Customizer to each of your posts you’d like to put in the slider. All posts in the slider should have Featured Images that are at least 1084px wide by 542px tall.
The Featured Category section is located just below the Featured Content Slider. It will display up to four of the latest posts in the category you have chosen to be featured in the Customizer. To assign a Featured Category, go to Customize → Theme Options and choose a category under Featured Category.
After you have chosen the category, click the Save & Publish button to save the changes.
The Featured Posts section is located just above the footer and displays the same posts that you’ve selected for the Featured Content slider.
Unlike the Featured Content slider which shows only on the blog’s homepage, the Featured Posts section will show throughout your site.
Heart and Style supports the Site Logo feature. The recommended dimensions for the image are 232px in width and 20px in height.
Heart and Style has three different Menus that can be used throughout the theme.
- Header — Primary menu is in the header area.
- Footer — Secondary menu is in at the bottom of the footer area.
- Social Menu — Social links menu is at the top of the footer area. Read more about Social Links.
Linking to any of the following sites in the Social Menu will automatically display its icon:
- Email (mailto: links)
- RSS Feed (urls with /feed/)
Heart and Style has two different areas where Widgets can be placed.
- Sidebar — This widget area is on the right side of every post and page.
- Footer — This widget area is at the bottom of your site.
Heart and Style supports Content Options and allows you to show or hide different elements such as an author bio, featured images, post date, post categories, post tags, and post author.
