Dyad 2

by Automattic

(Dyad 2 is a refreshed version of the Dyad theme, with more features and added flexibility.)

Dyad 2 pairs words and images in perfect balance: featured images and text excerpts get equal billing on the main blog page, while single posts and pages size images dynamically depending on the screen size. The homepage displays a slider to highlight up to six posts with large featured images.

Dyad is a flexible, multi-purpose website template for bars and restaurants as well as coffee shops, diners, and cafés. No matter your culinary focus is, Dyad 2 is a delicious way to create your eatery’s digital home.

Used as a restaurant theme for WordPress websites, Dyad 2‘s homepage slider showcases your top menu items. This free WordPress theme also works well for food bloggers or any type of food business, where great photos are key.

Add additional functionality like online ordering and delivery using WordPress plugins, — be sure to choose a WordPress.com Business or eCommerce plan for this — and use the OpenTable block to take reservations through your restaurant website. Boost business, improve efficiency, and look good while you do it with  Dyad.

Featured Content Slider

Featured Content Slider on the homepage.

To set up the Featured Content area:

  1. Ensure that your front page is set to display the latest posts, by going to My Site → Customize → Homepage Settings.
  2. Still in the Customizer, open the Featured Content panel.
  3. Choose a word to use as your Featured Content tag and add it in the text field. We suggest using a lowercase, single word, like featured.
  4. Click the Publish button to save changes.
  5. Create at least a few posts. For each post you’d like to feature, use the Tags & Categories area of the editor to add the tag you chose under Customize → Featured Content.
  6. Add a featured image to each post you’re featuring. Images works best in the slider if they’re at least 1800px wide by 1280px high.

Check out the full Featured Content setup guide and video.

Alternate Header Images

If no posts have the Featured Content tag that you set in the Customizer, Dyad 2 will display your tagline over the Custom Header Image if one was uploaded. A Custom Header Image can be uploaded by going to Customize → Header Image.

Static Front Page Header Images

If the site is using a Static Front Page, the theme will display that page’s Featured Image in the header area. If one is not assigned, the theme will fall back to the Featured Content slider. If no posts have the Featured Content tag, the Custom Header Image will be displayed on the Front Page instead.

Post Formats

The standard post format shows the Featured Image on the left and the main content on the right. The image Post Format displays the Featured Image at full width, above the post content.
