Apply a Template to a Page

You might have a particular post or page on which you want to use a different template instead of the default template. This guide will show you how to change the template for a specific page on your site.

Swap and Apply a Template

When editing a page or post’s content, you can open the page settings sidebar to change the default template it uses. Some themes include alternate templates, or you can create your own.

If you do not see the sidebar on the right, click the Settings icon in the top right corner to bring up the settings. This icon looks like a square with two uneven columns:

To apply a different template to a piece of content:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Click on Pages or Posts and select the page/post you want to apply the template to.
  3. In the Settings sidebar on the right, locate the Template section and click on the template name (1).
  4. Click on the “Swap template” option (2)
  5. Choose the template you want to apply from the previews of available templates.
  6. Once you’re satisfied with the template and the content of the page/post, click the “Save” button to apply your new template.
The Page Settings sidebar with the Template section expanded to display the different page template options.

Base Templates

Certain page types, like Archives, Search, and Home, have specific templates that are applied to them automatically. These “single-use” templates will not show up as an option when swapping a template.
