In addition to the fonts available on WordPress.com, you can add custom fonts to your website. This guide will show you how to install fonts from Google Fonts and upload your own font files.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Creator and Entrepreneur plans, and the legacy Pro plan. For sites on the free, Starter, and Explorer plans, upgrade your plan to access this feature.
You can install a font from the Google Font Library or upload a font file directly from Google Fonts.
To install a font from the Font Library:
- Visit your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- Click the “Styles” option from the Design menu.
- Click “Typography” in the Styles sidebar menu.
- Click the settings icon next to the “Fonts” heading.
- Click “Install Fonts” to begin browsing the fonts you can install.
The first time you click “Install Fonts,” you’ll be prompted to allow access to Google Fonts. Click the “Allow access to Google Fonts” button to connect to Google Fonts.
To install fonts from Google, you must give permission to connect directly to Google servers. The fonts you install will be downloaded from Google and stored on your site. Your site will then use these locally-hosted fonts. You can revoke access at any time through the Install Fonts section.
You can alternatively upload files directly on the Upload tab.
In the Install Fonts section of Fonts, you can search if you know the name of the font you want to use. You can also filter the Category to display all font types, or one of the following font typefaces:

- Sans Serif
- Display
- Serif
- Handwriting
- Monospace
Once you find a font you want to install:
- Click the name of the font and select the variants you want to install.
- Click the “Install” button.
- Once the font is successfully installed, it will appear in your Library under “Installed Fonts”.

To upload a font directly from Google Fonts:
- Visit Google Fonts and browse or search for the font you want to upload.
- Click the font’s name and click the “Get Font” button.
- Click the “Download All” button to start the download of the font files.
Note where the font files are saved on your computer. You will need this information for the next steps.
- Navigate to the location on your computer where the font files were saved.
- Unzip the compressed file. In most cases, you can unzip a file by double clicking the file name.
- Visit your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- Click the “Styles” option from the Design menu.
- Click “Typography” in the Styles sidebar menu.
- Click the settings icon next to the “Fonts” heading.
- Click the “Upload” tab.
- Click the “Upload font” option to browse for the font you downloaded from Google Fonts.
- Located the supported font files (Supported formats: .ttf, .otf, .woff, and .woff2.) and open them.
- Once the font is successfully installed, it will appear in your Library under “Installed Fonts”.
After you have successfully installed or uploaded a font, that font will appear anywhere you can edit the font of your text.
You can set the font as a global style or apply it to a single line of text.
If you no longer use a font on your website, you can deactivate it or completely delete it from your site. Deactivating or deleting a font means that any text using the font will no longer display that font family.
- Visit your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- Click the “Styles” option from the Design menu.
- Click “Typography” in the Styles sidebar menu.
- Click the settings icon next to the “Fonts” heading.
- Under “Installed Fonts” click the font you want to remove.
- To deactivate a font, uncheck the box next to the font and click the “Update” button.
- To delete or uninstall a font, click the “Delete” link.

If you have deactivated (but not deleted) a font, you can reactivate the font:
- Visit your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- Click the “Styles” option from the Design menu.
- Click “Typography” in the Styles sidebar menu.
- Click the settings icon next to the “Fonts” heading.
- Under “Installed Fonts” click the font you want to reactivate.
- Check the box next to the font variant and click the “Update” button.
