Export an Entire Website With a Plugin

The standard WordPress Export tool moves your site’s content only. This guide will explain the step-by-step process for migrating an entire WordPress.com website, including the theme and plugins, to another WordPress host.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Creator and Entrepreneur plans, and the legacy Pro plan. For sites on the free, Starter, and Explorer plans, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

Prerequisites

The All-in-One WP Migration plugin lets you move an entire WordPress.com site, including its content, plugins, themes, and users. This plugin is especially helpful if you plan to migrate from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org site or local sites.

You can also import your site to WordPress.com using the All-In-One Migration plugin.

If you still wish to move your website to another host, you will need:

Export Your WordPress.com Site

To export a copy of your entire website from WordPress.com, take the following steps:

  1. Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin on the WordPress.com site you wish to export.
  2. In your site’s dashboard, navigate to All-in-One WP Migration → Export.
    • If you’re using the same domain name on the new site, you don’t need to use the find and replace feature at All-in-One WP Migration → Export. However, if you’re changing domain names as part of the migration, you’ll want to enter your current domain name in the Find field and your new domain name in the Replace with field. Then, generate your Export file.
  3. Click “Export to” and choose the “File” option. The other methods you see here will cost money, whereas the File option is included with the free version of All-in-One WP Migration.
  4. When the file has finished preparing, click the download option to save the file to your computer.

The file will be in a .wpress format. You can import this to any other WordPress site (including another WordPress.com site) by installing the same All-in-One WP Migration plugin on the new site.
