Overview

In this module, we’ll explore why email is such a fantastic way to deliver your course content right to your students’ inboxes. We’ll also discuss how to kick things off with a great introduction and onboarding experience, all via email. Finally, we’ll dive into how to line up your emails in a way that keeps your students engaged and eager to learn. Let’s get started!

Why email-delivered courses?

First off, almost everyone has an email account, and most people check it daily. This means your course is more likely to be seen and interacted with.

Secondly, email allows for a personal touch; you can directly reach out to your students, making the learning experience more intimate.

Lastly, emails are straightforward to schedule and automate, which means once you set up your course, it pretty much runs itself. So, if you’re looking for a reliable, personal, and efficient way to deliver your course, email might be just the ticket.

Leveraging WordPress.com features

Since you’re already comfortable with WordPress.com, you’re in luck! There are several options that can make your email-delivered course run smoothly. The top two that we recommend are:

Paid newsletters

If your course has a fixed timeline, say, an 8-week cooking class, consider leveraging the paid newsletter feature on WordPress.com. This tool is tailor-made for courses that have a clear start and finish date. It allows you to send out scheduled lesson posts as newsletters to your paid subscribers, making the entire process a breeze. This feature works great for a Drip course that we covered in another lesson.

MailPoet plugin

Looking for more flexibility? MailPoet↗︎ might be your go-to. It lets you fine-tune how your course emails are set up, triggered, and sequenced. Plus, there are add-ons that can add even more functionality to MailPoet. For a deep dive into using MailPoet for email-delivered courses, check out their detailed guide↗︎ – which is also excellent supplemental information to this course.

If you want to get into the technical nitty-gritty of setting up these features, we recommend our Newsletters 101 course, which covers both of these tools in detail.

And don’t forget, your sales page is a crucial part of attracting students to sign up for your email-delivered course.
