Bio
It seems I have always dabbled in several things. I get it from my Dad, I think. He is always doing something different. Woodworking, photography, song writing, and, currently, wine making. I seem to be searching through the things that interest me in order to find my niche, just like him.
I have been cooking and baking since I was a child, although I didn't really start to focus on it until I began working in the restaurant industry. 10 years of serving other people's food made me realize that I could do it better ( in most cases). When I first got married I began to experiment cooking "gourmet" meals. I used ingredients I had never heard of and began to experiment with flavors. That's when my obsession with herbs and spices began. Today I have easily 50 different herbs and spices on hand at all times.
Cooking isn't my only love. Photography is also a big part of my life. I have been taking photos for as long as I can remember. I went to college and got my degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography. I have had several side jobs using this particular talent but have yet to stay in one place long enough to make the connections to have a successful business. Maybe one day soon, though. I can feel it coming.
The birth of my twins and the subsequent ending of my career outside the home brought the painful reality that we were broke, to the forefront. That was about 2 years ago now and I am on a journey to becoming a tightwad. Although I admit, it is easier said than done. I spend my Sunday afternoons clipping coupons and studying the weekly sale flyers all the while dreaming of a shopping spree to Macy's. No body said it was going to be easy.
Being virtually home bound, I have taken up another hobby...quilting. My mother taught me to sew when I was young but I never had an interest until I couldn't easily leave the house anymore. Quilting is still a budding obsession of mine but one that I find quite relaxing. Nothing but me and the whir of my sewing machine.
My children are probably my greatest obsession though. As with any mother, I only want the best for them. And I want to provide them with the wholesome and loving childhood that I was lucky enough to have.
My goal in life is to eventually find the trade that I can master. But until that happens I'll show you what I'm eating along the way.
