zBench Screen Options – Custom Links
-
Using WordPress online and the zBench theme, I set up a menu with custom links, all that’s working fine, but the custom links are showing across the top of the page, even when I uncheck the “Show on Screen: Custom Links” box in screen options. I checked on another computer just to make sure and they’re still there. I finally have everything configured the way I want it… this is making me a little crazy. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The purpose of creating a custom menu is to provide links in the top horizontal navigation menu for your visitors to use. What I see is a menu with numerous links to a large number of other sites you have profiles on. I’m wondering what it is that you want to do.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. What I wanted to do was create a menu of links to various other sites, some Facebook, some other pages like websites. I’m new to WordPress and having to learn rather quickly. Will try the Blogroll.

Nope, that wasn’t it. What I have on the page is fine, I just don’t want the links to show across the top, is that not what the Screen Options are supposed to address?

“Screen options” has nothing to do with the public side of your site. It has to do with what is visible and not visible in the different pages in the admin area, your dashboard.
If you do not want the custom links to show in the custom menu at the top of the site, then simply go to appearance > menu and remove them from the custom menu and save. Do note though that I see none of those links in the sidebar or anywhere, so removing them from the top menu means they will not show up anywhere on your site.
You could create a second custom menu and then use the custom menu widget in the sidebar.

Thanks, that’s what I was afraid of. I think this was what I was trying to do… but failed somehow. Could be the four hours sleep last night…

I just tried doing that again, the Custom Menu says:
“Use this widget to add one of your custom menus as a widget. “
and then takes you to Menu tab, in which you put the links and we’re back to square one again. -
