Wordprexy
-
Hello,
My blog http://givingupcontrol.wordpress.com/ is being mirrored at http://givingupcontrol.wordprexy.com. Wordprexy is running adds off my blog content. In some cases the Wordprexy entry actually beats out my real blog entry in Google.
Does anyone know what Wordprexy is? Is this a pirate site?
-
Yea,
Officially complain to WordPress.com your post above may be enough. And also contact http://givingupcontrol.wordprexy.com and ask them to stop or tell them about your copyrighted material.
Actually the copyright thing is a pretty serious offence in the USA and the punishment is pretty severe if caught.

Wordprexy appears to be a wordpress.org install that is exactly mirroring the other wordpress.com. Google and Technorati spiders recognize duplicate content in a negative light. If this is a blogscraper then assert your copyright. Contact the blogger and object to content theft.
There are many threads on blogscrapers in the forum searchbox. Many people are experiencing the same problem but it is not a wordpress.com problem due to rss feeds sploggers are having a rip-off field day. For reference: Here’s the link to Lorelle’s post on what to do if you do discover someone has been stealing your blog content http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/04/10/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-content/

“Officially complain to WordPress.com”
We cannot do anything.
Find their webhost and swamp them with emails / DMCA’s. -

I have found a thread http://talkingtails.wordpress.com/2007/09/11/what-is-wordprexy/ that implies that Wordprexy is authorized by WordPress. Can this really be true?
-
I think it means WordPress.org is the software while a host like Yahoo or whoever is the one hosting it.
-
mark, I’m unclear what your message (DMCA) means, even after reading the above-mentioned thread. Can you elaborate please?
My blog, with its pre-domain mapping upgrade-url, is mirrored there and up to the minute.

Go here to find more info on wordprexy.com

They’re in Istanbul, Turkey although their domain is registered through Yahoo.
Good luck.

@ellaella
You will find this covered in Lorelle’s post I put up the link to above.The DMCA Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) creates a safe harbor for online service providers (OSPs, including ISPs) against copyright liability if they promptly block access if they receive a notification from a copyright holder or their agent.

how to do DMCA notifications http://www.seologic.com/faq/dmca-notifications.phpWordPress.com is not in a position to do anything about this. The onus is on the bloggers to take the steps that Lorelle lays out very clearly in her post(s).

Since they’re based in Istanbul, I wonder whether they’re mirroring wordpress.com in order to circumvent the Turkish block on the domain. Anyone know whether that block is still in effect?
-
You are right on wank. Not sure if they are still blocked (think so), but most blogs are being replicated. Examples:
http://raincoaster.wordprexy.com/
http://wank.wordprexy.com/Just replicating the domains that wordpress.com puts out.

Thanks all for the info and links. Istanbul puts a whole different slant on it for me. Will do nothing for now.

@niyse
Thanks for posting the links. I’ve been too busy to locate them …lol :D
I’m posting the disclaimer here for others who read this thread.Disclaimer: WordPrexy is a WordPress-specific proxy server. It only mirrors the content; it does neither copy nor host any of the actual content found on WordPress.com. WordPrexy.com is not responsible from the material and content found in it’s sites and cannot be held liable for them.

Mark, you could block the access to the wordprexy servers just banning their IPs. It’s so hard to do that?
