WordPress free and Google Search Control problem

  • Hello everyone, i have a problem.
    It’s the first time I create a blog here on wordpress (it’s for an university competition), I would like to add the URL of my website to the Google Search Console.

    I have a free plan on WordPress, so i don’t have the PlugIn. I would like to add the google html meta tag at my home page, but when i add the html block it doesn’t work. When i write a short code for example: (now i insert the space in the tag so that it doesn’t turn back into text)

    <html >
    <head > title </head >
    <google meta tag>
    <body > text </body >
    </html >

    It doesn’t work.

    Any of you have any advice?

    Thank you

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

    On WordPress.com sites you don’t add the meta tag directly to the site’s HTML. Instead we have a settings page in the dashboard where you add that, and it will get inserted into your site’s HTML automatically.

    You can find instructions for verifying your site with Search Console here:
