Why is my existing page giving a 'page not found' error?
-
I have a page with the permalink https://iscott.wordpress.com/tyndale-israel-study-tour-2016/. The page exists, is published, and is set to public. It was accessible until I edited it this evening (just made a tiny change in the text content). Now the permalink results in a ‘Page not found’ error. Changing the permalink slug doesn’t make any difference. I also tried creating an entirely new page with the same content, and that new page also resulted in ‘Page not found.’ Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Permalink structure cannot be changed on wordpress.COm hosted blogs.
Are you aware of the differences between pages and posts?
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/Are you trying to create a link to this https://www.tyndale.ca/events/israel-study-tour-2016 in your custom menu on your wordpress.COM site?
If so then see here Creating a Custom Menu
https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/2/#creating-a-custom-menuAnd here Adding Custom Links

I’m not trying to do any of those things. I’m just using the permalink that wordpress automatically generates (clicking on it from the edit page) and am getting “page not found.” The link to the page at the top of my blog, created automatically, also does not work.
It is as if the page has been deleted, but it’s there in my admin interface (and is marked “published”).
-
Actually, in my list of all pages (in wp-admin) the “view” link doesn’t even work for these pages. It also gives “Page not found.”

There is a weird thing going on with custom menus. I think your blog may be affected like others are reporting. Please post into this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/menu-troubleshooting-1?replies=9

But I’m not doing anything with custom menus. I’m not trying to change any menus. It’s that my page is suddenly inaccessible from *any* link (even those generated automatically by wordpress). The page url simply isn’t finding the page anymore.

Do you want to search for the lost post?
It is possible that you may locate it in your drafts or in post revisions.Staff are working on improving post and page revisions. If you cannot restore from your browser, or locate a revision, or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.
re: recovering a lost post or page
Please go to https://wordpress.com/post with the same browser and see if it offers to restore a post. If a restore button appears, that means a local copy was saved in your browser and you may be able to recover it.If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Pages > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needed.

To locate draft POSTS Dashboard > Posts > All Post > Drafts
http://iscott.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=postTo locate draft PAGES Dashboard > Pages> All Pages > Drafts
http://iscott.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_status=draft&post_type=pageI recommend:
1. Always create your posts on the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > Add New and pages at Dashboard > Pages > Add New
If you have cookies enabled on your browser your preference will be saved unless or until your clear your cookies, and it will take you to the classic editor automatically every time you create a new post via the drop-down menu in the black admin bar or edit a post via the edit button on the blog itself. You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/
2. Immediately after creating a post and entering a title click the save draft link. Thereafter, “click save draft” frequently.
3. Always allow pages to fully load before clicking any other links.
4. Never leave a post or page open for content creation or editing and walk away from it, or open another tab in the same blog and work on something else while it is still open. Save it properly and return to edit it later.
5. Use an offline blog editor so you have backups on your own computer http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

Thanks for all of that advice. The thing is that the page isn’t lost in wp-admin. It’s still listed in my published pages and I can still edit it. All of the content is still there in edit view. It’s just that I can’t view it on my site. None of the links to the published page work.

There is no projected timeframe as the number of threads tagged for Staff varies from day to day. They work their way through all threads in datestamp order.

Suddenly tonight none of the pages on my site http://ipswich.wordpress.com will load. Posts still work. All of the pages are still listed in wpadmin, and I can still edit them but I cannot view them. This is the case on every computer, logged in or not logged in. Most of the main menu items are pages so it’s easy to check this. (A few link to posts or other sites).

I have the same problem. All my pages, tags, and categories are suddenly lost as ‘page not found’, though I hadn’t changed or done anything to the site.
