Why can't I upload and link to plain text files? How do I post source code?

Why can’t I upload and link to plain text files, .txt type files. Perhaps the way you do with media?
Do you have any suggestion for doing posting and linking to plain text files?

Unfortunately, we don’t allow .txt files for security reasons, as they could contain executable scripts. What are you trying to do specifically with the file?

My Page is all about coding a mobile web site. The code takes a lot of prep to display on the blog and after that your system moves the code tags around. At first it was only moving the code tag to before the first blank line. But last night I went back into one post and it removed the code tags completely and added blank lines between every line.
The re-edit mistakes that the system makes are so frustrating And all the prep work it takes to get code to display on the blog mean YOU CAN’T HAVE CODE ON A WORDPRESS BLOG WITHOUT WORDPRESS KILLING YOUR FORMATTING.
Besides the fact that I want to be able to to put up clean un-preped tested known good pages of code. WERE talkin’ .txt text files, TEXT NOT EXECUTABLE VERSIONS. -
Thanks for the information. We offer a super-handy way to post source code on your blog. Please check out http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/posting-source-code/.
