Why are my side bar widgets not displaying on my home page?

Side column on home page not displaying widgets
I have widgets set up on my side bar, they show when I click on most of my menu headings but not on my home page or one titled ‘making art’. Instead on those two pages I see part of an older post. I don’t understand why this has happened.

Hi there,
Sidebars and widgets in them do not fall to the bottom and display below posts and/or posts do not appear in sidebars unless
(1) content has been imported into the blog
(2) the blogger has been copying and pasting content from elsewhere, without using either icon 5 or icon 6 in Row 2 of the visual editor http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#pasting-text
(3) or the blogger has copied and pasted invalid HTML into a text widget or left an HTML tag open

I have been having trouble with the widget on the side bar of my blog. In the past I have not had any problem. Yet today The URL that I paste into the image widget is deleted every time I click save.
See the side bar here. It is the last image on the right for “HAWC” which I have inserted between text widgets.
-
I also lost my left hand sidebar. All the widgets are set to display, yet on the home page the side bar is blank. The sidebar appears on individual posts. This started just this morning and I am using twentyfourteen. I have tested a NUMBER of things to make it come back and NOTHING has worked.

I have determined that the post that went up today is causing this. When I make it a draft, the sidebar shows up. When it is published, the sidebar disappears. The post has nothing fancy in it whatsoever.

I have continued testing a number of things. It is specifically the featured tag on the post that is causing the problem. There was no importing, no copying & pasting, no open tags, etc. Just the tag is the issue.
-
You seem to have two identical posts:

http://aucamission.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/bedridden-widow-2/ -
yes. as i said, i am testing a number of different things to get it to work. I tried to create a new post to see if something was corrupt in the first one. still nothing is working.
-
I do see a sidebar on both the left hand side and the right hand side here > http://aucamission.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/bedridden-widow/
Is that what you see? -
It seems that the featured tag messes things up when there are “too many” posts with that tag. If I reduce the number of that tag by removing from older posts that no longer show up there, it seems that the issue is resolved.
I am disappointed that I will have to “monitor” that tag to be sure there aren’t too many in order for things to show up correctly. I would suggest the page picking up the most recent 6 posts for the featured section instead of requiring a writer to edit & erase old tags.
-
The sidebars show up fine on individual posts. The home page has the “featured tag” bug.

Below was exactly the info I needed and it is now fixed, thank you Time Thief.

Hi Gretchen – I can’t reproduce what you describe. Here’s what I’m doing:
1. In Twenty Fourteen, I set a featured tag, and apply that tag to six posts.
2. On the homepage, both sidebars show.
3. I add the featured tag to a seventh post.
4. On the homepage, six posts are shown and the sidebars still appear.I think in your case, you are saying when you add the tag to a seventh post, your right sidebar does not display? Can you please put this back to where the sidebar isn’t showing and reply, so I can take a look? It should just show six featured posts and everything else display normally regardless of how many featured tags you have.
-
Thanks for responding. It was the 8th or 9th tag that affected things. Of course, when I go back in and put the featured tag on more than 6 today, nothing affects the home page layout. I guarantee it was the only remedy after hours of trial and error on the page yesterday. Maybe it was a glitch for a day?

Hi Gretchen – Well, a lot of times as soon as someone from support looks at something, it suddenly starts behaving. ;) Let me know if you notice it again. If you can grab a screenshot of it, that’d be really helpful.
Here are instructions for how to make a screenshot: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
You can upload it to your blog’s Media Library and I can look at it there.
