Which themes automatically display bylines?
-
I am starting a blog for a course, and I need to make sure that the theme I choose will automatically display bylines. Otherwise, I won’t know which students are creating which posts and will not be able to grade them. I know that twenty-ten would work, but are there any others?
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no master list. There is a partial list only. See author byline and author profile displayed or not > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/
Some themes are designed to display author bylines and some are not. The point of displaying an author name is to differentiate the posts on an multi-author site. Regardless of the theme, and provided the theme is designed to display a byline, bylines will only display now if there are at least two authors who both have at least one published post in the blog.

That’s fine– I have many more than two students! I’m trying to figure out which themes are designed to display the byline so that I can choose one of those. Is there a list that is more up to date? That link seems rather old. Is there a way to tell if the theme will include the byline or not before anyone actually starts posting? It seems like it’d be a hassle to change it after students have started posting.

No. If there had been one I would have pr0ovided the link to it.

Every theme has a detailed theme description site and a live demo site. Viewing those may be helpful. Example:

Yes, I’ve been scrolling through the descriptions and demos, but NONE of them mention bylines. Surely someone must know? It seems important to know if the theme is meant for an individual blog or a community blog with multiple users.
Is anyone one currently using a blog with automatic bylines, and which theme are you using?

I did find a 2012 list… but it still seems somewhat out of date.

Another option is to find a theme you like, and use Categories to identify each author. Using Categories that way, will allow you to create a custom menu.

It seems like someone should be able to tell me if a theme will display bylines or not. I assume that’s a decision someone has to make when they design a theme, but maybe it’s just a happy accident? I’m not sure how it works, really.

I found a few themes that have bylines using keyword searches like “author” and “by”. That might help narrow down your search. Still, a few of the themes in these searches, didn’t have bylines.

So which themes did you end up using that had bylines? I’m really just asking for suggestions (I’ve done all the google searching, but there’s not a lot out there).

I use Expound and it does have a byline, but the front page is considered “magazine” style, featured images and truncated posts. Bylines are only visible on individual post pages.
Zoren has bylines, as does Bosco, Syntax, Able and Comet. There are others, so it’s more a matter of your personal preference.
