Where do you guys find your non-copyrighted images?
-
If I do an image search on google and then click on the “All Licenses” button a drop down box appears and you can choose to search with:
All Licesnses
All Creative Commons
Public Domain
Free to Share and Use
Free to Share and Use Commercially
etc…Question:
From what I’m understanding “All Creative Commons”, “Public Domain” and “Free to Share and Use” images may be used on my news blog. Is this correct?
Also, does anyone use Shutterstock? I’m considering getting an account.
Thanks in advance!

Hey hey,
Adding images is so fun!
You’re correct, those 3 designations mean that images can go on a blog. It’s still a great idea to provide a source for the image.
Another place I like to find images that are free of copyright restrictions is at Wikimedia Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.
Personally I’ve not tried Shutterstock.

My website is a news blog. I write quite a bit but I also share articles from other websites. I’ve been watching videos on image sharing and article sharing. Article sharing is fine as long as you link back. Preferably don’t use the entire article etc..
Am I allowed to share the images from those articles too?
If not, how are all of the thousands of websites / news blogs getting away with it?

Hey folks, ICYMI there’s a great resource page for free images at https://wordpress.com/support/finding-free-images-and-other-media/
Keep in mind that while Creative Commons images are free to use, they may have other licensing requirements.

Also @thearcanelaboratory You asked about sharing other people’s works on your own site. If the copyright owner has released their work under a Creative Commons license, you would need to adhere to their chosen CC license.
WordPress.com has a readable guide to Copyright and Fair Use here: https://wordpress.com/support/fair-use/ with links to other resources. *If you’re not using copyrighted material within the broad stated reasons mentioned there, ask permission first from the copyright owner. Bloggers have been threatened with legal action for ignoring that.

Thank you so much! All of this copyright stuff is starting to make me feel a little reluctant to continue with my news blog.

Thank you for the link Jennifer. I read the whole article. I think the info on my news blog is fair use.
What I’m really worried about is images.
If I share a copyrighted article from another website and link back to it can I use the photos too? Or do I need to find new photos?
If not, how do so many news sites get around the use of copyrighted photos?
