Where Do I Find My IP Address?
-
I’m a beginner, obviously, to admit I can’t find my IP address. It’s not the API key, is it?
-
-
But I heard there’s also another IP but the real IP for the computer and not the one that’s public. IP numbers should be kept as private as much as possible.

MyBrowserInfo.com is the fastest and easiest way to determine your IP address and full information about your Web browser. You do not have to provide and email address. It’s instantaneous. In case you disn’t mean IP and actually meant API key, then here are the instructions to locate your API key http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/19/api-key/
Hope this helps. :)

* I knew this was going to be more difficult than I thought. The reason for the IP Address is that a friend suggested I install Statcounter to get more detailed blog stats. Statcounter’s setup, offered this choice:
[You can specify your IP Address … or a range s…to be blocked. This prevents you … inflating your count.]
*Is putting my IP number in my setup (password protected) private enough?
If so, how do I find it?
If not, are there other blog stat programs that don’t require the IP address?
Thanks for your help. -
I would NOT give them my IP address. I mean, I check my blog easily 20 times a day, but in the grand scheme of things that’s going to be either really obvious when you check stats or completely irrelevant, depending on how many you get. I don’t trust Statcounter’s privacy guarantees.

Have you checked the other stats counters listed in the FAQs out? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/28/can-i-have-a-statcounter-on-my-blog/

Activemeter in their settings for each “project” (blog in this case) will show your IP when you log in adjacent to the field to exclude. You can just copy your IP address and paste it into the exclude field and then save. Do be aware, that anytime your modem (DSL or Cable) reboots, the IP you entered will no longer be correct. If you are on dial up, your IP will be different each time to connect. If your ISP reboots their systems (something most do regularly) your IP will change. If I exclude mine, I have to check it daily since sometimes it will change in the middle of the night.

Many thanks everyone. You’re great! Your comments have raised my awareness about the issues involved in what I thought was a simple add-on.
I’ll look in WordPress’s FAQ to see if there’s a counter that create such a technical and security problem. -
I gave you the link above to the only stats counters we can use on wordpress.com blogs. I’m using shinystats on the blog linked to my name. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/28/can-i-have-a-statcounter-on-my-blog/
