What is “proper etiquette” in the blogging world?
-
I see tonight that someone has copied two of my posts in their entirety on their site with my name as the author but nothing about it seems to link back to me. Here’s one of them:
http://health-earth.com/?p=778
It seems like their entire web site is like this – posting other people’s blog posts. Is this considered proper form? I’m really not liking it.
Am I over reacting?
-
giving credits to others’ posts if you are using them.
giving credits to owners’ of photographs/images if you are using them.
return comments if you received the same -
No, you’re not over reacting. Contact them and ask them to remove the posts or link back.
-
OK, thanks meganmulder. I’m going to do that now. It seems that their site is a wordpress site. If they don’t respond, should I contact wordpress and how so?
-
I honestly have no idea. I learned most of my knowledge about wordpress and blogger by clicking on everything, so maybe do the same until you get to a contact sheet?
-
That’s a wordpress.ORG site, which is not the same as our sites here. WordPress.ORG is simply the blog software.
A couple of things: I looked up the domain name here http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=http%3A%2F%2Fhealth-earth&tld=com The host appears to be sg01.com
Take a look at this blog http://stolen.wordpress.com/ for what to do about scraper sites such as this.
-
An entire website like that? There’s an entire INDUSTRY like that. It’s called blog scraping or splogging and it is both dead common and illegal.
-
Thanks Vivainpaige for the info. I looked at both of the links you sent. I’ve sent an email to the email address on the site (who knows if it’s real) and the one from the link you gave me.
Where do you suggest I send an email to the host? When I go to:
there’s not a site. What should I do?
Thank you.
-
Raincoaster,
So since this happens often is there anything that I can do or am I wasting my time? -
You are going to have to wait until somebody with more experience on the scraper sites than I can step in and help. I don’t know how to track down the hosts. I did Google the host name and found that it is considered a spam host but like you, didn’t find a website for them.
-
Thanks vivianpaige. Hopefully someone will step in who knows what to do. I appreciate your help.
-
Follow the instructions on Stolen. And also see this site: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com because I know they have lots of tips for fighting scrapers there.
-
Thanks everyone. The person who’s blog did this to me actually wrote back to me and said he/she now has my site as a link in the sidebar. I have written back and have said to take my posts off, remove my link and don’t take my posts again. I really hope they follow though and I can be done with this mess.
Raincoaster, thanks for the link!
-
Please someone help!!! Now they have copied my post that I did this morning. They have 3 total now.

You may find some more contact information from http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=health-earth.com
Hitting the web host with a DMCA notice will generally be more effective than the actual blogger.
Lorelle is always a good source for information on these particular situations – https://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/04/10/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-content/

Thanks Bubel and Vivianpaige! I just did some searching on this and found out that the host is “Hollywood Interactive, Inc”. People all over Google are saying that it’s used for spam all the time and they’ve been hit hard by them. Some people have said they’ve “blocked the IP address”. Is this something that can be done? Is it something that WordPress does or I have to do on my end?
The IP address is:
64.27.5.163

@trying to be greener:
At least they don’t have Adsense ads on their blog – yet. If you ever have your stuff copied by a blog with Adsense ads on them, Google has been pretty good with me about removing their ads from that blog. All you have to do is follow the instructions laid out here:
It looks daunting, but once you’ve done it a few times you kind of get into a routine.
-
Thanks lettershometoyou! I’ve copied the address to the page you sent so if I need it, I’ll have the info ready.
I’m sure you understand HOW ANGRY I AM ABOUT THIS!!!!! I just want it stopped!
Does anyone know if I can block the IP address and if so, how?
Thanks everyone for all your attention to this.
