What do I need?

I am part of a very small business. We recently paid a developer to update our website and are happy with it. Our website is for informational purposes only, not a lot of traffic, not selling anything. It is built on wordpress.

We are not happy with our IT guys that provide domain hosting, monthly security updates, plug in updates (basic site services). They also are not helpful when we need guidance on small edits or changes (nothing major) to our website.

Is this something wordpress.com can provide us? I guess we need domain hosting, monthly security updates/patches, and occasional guidance or direct help with changes to the site. I just want to make sure this is the right place for it and which plan to subscribe to before jumping in. Thank you very much.

  • Hi there! Thanks for sharing the details, that really helps paint a clear picture of what you’re looking for.

Yes, this is definitely something WordPress.com can help with, and you’re very much in the right place.

Here’s how WordPress.com typically fits the needs you described:

You can register a new domain or transfer your existing domain to WordPress.com, so everything is managed in one place.

All WordPress.com plans include managed hosting, which means security monitoring, core updates, and protection are handled for you automatically. You would not need to worry about monthly security patches or maintenance tasks.

For plugins and themes, WordPress.com paid plans allow you to install and manage your own plugins, while still benefiting from the managed environment.

When it comes to help and guidance, WordPress.com support can absolutely assist with small edits, questions, and general guidance on using and updating your site.

To help you decide which plan fits best, I recommend reviewing this page, which clearly breaks down all plans and included features:
