upload a file on P2 beta
-
I’m trying out your P2 beta and want to upload a file, but can’t see how to do it.
-
Sorry, I’ll be more specific. I’m trying to upload a PowerPoint file so other people in the team can see it
-
Hi there,
So you want to embed the file, not just upload it.
The WordPress software doesn’t natively support embedding of documents like Powerpoint slideshows. To embed a slideshow on your site, you need to use Google Slides instead or Microsoft Onedrive to embed the Powerpoint itself:
https://wordpress.com/support/google-docs/#slides
https://en.support.wordpress.com/powerpoint-web-app/
Simply uploading the file so it appears as a downloadable link on the site can be done using a File block, or by just drag-and-dropping the file from Windows Explorer directly into the new post box.

I couldn’t find a File block.
I clicked on the ‘+’ at the top but there is no File element -

-
I can drag-and-drop images and PDFs, but we specifically want to share PowerPoints, and it looks like P2 can’t support that

Hi @manticoreblog, we did have an issue involving some file types a few days ago. That’s been resolved.
So, curiously, are you able to upload it via https://wordpress.com/media or via https://wordpress.com/post — just not through the front-end post form?
-
Hi – correct, can’t load it through the front-end form.
I haven’t tried the WordPress route and don’t want to use that option – doesn’t make it easier for users. -
@manticoreblog understood. As a troubleshooting step, though, to see if this is tied to a recent bug, will you upload the PowerPoint today using https://wordpress.com/post ?
And, if it does not work there, can you use https://wordpress.com/media ? If you’ll leave the power point there too that would be helpful.

Thank you @manticoreblog. We’re checking this with our developers and we’ll update you with more information.
