Upgrading wordpress

If I upgrade to the latest version of wordpress, could it cause problems with my website?

Hi @dragonflycounsellingcheshire,
Theoretically yes, it could cause problems because some plugins might stop working or work improperly. But it is recommended to install the latest version, because last version contains bug fixes and what is important security fixes. So at the end there is more risk to keep old version, rather that install a new one.
P.S. backup of your WordPress can help you if something goes wrong: https://wordpress.com/support/restore/

Hi there,
The forum you’re posting in now is for the hosting provider, WordPress.com. All sites hosted with us are always on the latest version of WordPress, as we automatically upgrade all sites on our platform every time a new version comes up. There’s no option here to manually upgrade your WordPress version.
So it sounds like you’re working with the open source version of WordPress, made over on WordPress.org. For help with that version of WordPress, including advice on upgrading your software, please ask the WordPress.org community instead at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
