Two buttons missed in the classic editor
-
Hi, there. I wrote a message yesterday in a closed thead:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/align-the-paragrahs?replies=7#post-2886852But my question was not resolved.
There are two buttons missed:
a) justify text
b) underline textHowever, Calypso has both buttons.
Screenshot from Calypso: https://cloudup.com/cD_OWyAxvToScreenshot from the “classic” editor: https://cloudup.com/c4l7EUk8CyF
Is this a bug?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Some months ago the “justify text” button was removed from WordPress.org with the last update (WP 4.7?). It looks like the wp-admin dashboard has now been brought in line. I can live without the “justify” button but to remove the “underline text” button too seems crazy. But I’m told that less than 20% of WordPress.com accounts are currently using the wp-admin dashboard so perhaps its days really are numbered.

Those two functions are also not available in the classic editor for the Rosalie theme
It’s not related with the theme that you use.
I don’t think this issue is theme-related though.
Right.

Yeah, I use the text editor (not the Visual), but this is really weird.

Both those buttons were apparently removed in core 4.7.
Here’s another forum post about it with a Staff response: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wp-47-and-wpcom-stay-far-away?replies=8

@themagicrobot I use the dashboard still as I prefer it to the mincing around the upgrades have caused.
-
@justjennifer so how do we justify alignment now? Or is that not an acceptable format to wordpress? I like to justify alignment on paragraphs.
-
so how do we justify alignment now?
Text mode:
a) div:
Text here

b) p:
<p style=”text-align: justify;”>Text here

c) keyboard shortcut: —>Shift+Alt+ “j”

Keyboard shortcuts work too. I’m not at my computer right now but you can find them in the info button (?) at the right on the lower row of editing tools.
-
In the wp-admin visual editor the Keyboard Shortcut box does include “underline”. Perhaps staff could now add Shift+Alt+j for Justify to the Keyboard Shortcut box too?

It is there for me, right now.

Drat. I feel stupid now. Never thought to scroll down!! That sums up WordPress.com for me. Everything is there somewhere but not always right in your face. I guess if it was the support forums would be empty of visitors.

Hi everyone,
Occasionally some of the less used features are removed; in this case justify and underline.
Both of these buttons are still active in the new editor. If you wish to continue using the WP Admin Dashboard these keyboard shortcuts will do what you need:

You’re welcome! There is also a keyboard shortcut button on the WP Admin editor too:
-
Yes, I know. I always use the “classic” dashboard or WP Admin instead of Calypso.
Thanks again, Gemma. :)
