switching domains
-
Hello, WP forums. I am working on a test blog as sort of a proof of concept. I am considering going straight to the paid plan option. If I start by having WP host the blog, is it possible to later move it to a separate, existing domain name and self-host (if that’s the correct term)?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, you can export and import between wordpress.COm and wordpress.ORG. Yes, you can use a domain purchased through wordpress.COM and later move to a self-hosted wordpress.ORG install.
Moving to a Self-Hosted WordPress Site https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/However, paid upgrades apply only to wordpress.COM sites. Are you clear on that?
I am considering going straight to the paid plan option.
You require an underlying .wordpress.COM URL to domain map from to a domain URL. Are you clear on that?

@timethief, thank you so much for the detailed response. There is certainly a lot to consider! Again, thanks for taking the time to do that.

After reading some of the links you posted, I think I would recommend to my associates that we go with wordpress.com.
One more question, then.
Say I am making a blog site for ABC company. ABC company already has an extensive website, domain name, etc. How does wordpress help to make it look like the blog is part of ABC company? Does that make sense? I think I can probably answer this one pretty easily by looking at some examples.

Every wordpress.com blog has multiple RSS Feeds.
Example http://doopel.wordpress.com/feed is the URL for published posts.Provided your website can draw from an RSS Feed then that’s all you need.
If it is not so equipped we do not provide support for any sites except WordPress.COM hosted blogs. In that case if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
