Stop the "Convert to blocks" tab

Is there any way to stop the “Convert to blocks” tab from appearing when I use Classic Block? Besides being intrusive (which affects my creative process), it doesn’t make any sense: first, because the Classic Block is a block; second, because if I’m using it it’s because I don’t want to use another one (and I use others when I think it’s necessary).

You can’t as it’s part of the toolbar of the Classic Block.

@radtrad I’m going to +1 on this and add the “feature request” tag.

If the Classic Block is inserted initially (as opposed to displaying when opening existing content) there’s little logic to showing “Convert to Blocks” since there’s nothing to convert.

(and I understand this comes from the Gutenburg project and not from Automattic.)

Since we’re already suggesting things about the Classic block, I’d like to add another one:

While I personally like using the block editor, I know it can be a challenge for some. Maybe there could be a setting in the Editor Preferences that one could tick to “Always Start with a Classic Block”? That way, people who feel more comfortable working in the Classic environment would already be set up to start writing from the get go when opening the Editor.

Just a thought.

No, it’s not. The message “Convert to blocks” is something else, which is not part of the classic block, and therefore can be removed. It doesn’t appear in the block, but on it.

Hi there,

Thank you all for the screenshots and suggestions. I am going to report this to our devs and see what they can potentially do about that. I agree that it is no sense of having that Convert to block pop up when you are using the Classic Block. I’ll even add relay your suggestion as well, @justjennifer. I will keep you updated once I generate the report.
