Slow Loading Websites

  • A month or so ago I was having a terrible time loading my website, Admin, New Posts… you name it… It was my own Server though that was the culprit… I had to inform Ipower of the issue… I mean I was taking up to 2 minutes just to save or put a new background in it was maddening…
it did teach me how important speed is to a site…

I was so happy when I resolved these slowness issues…

Lately however, I’ve been going around to the usual Corporate sites, Huffington Post and many other huge Behemoths who buy their way to success and the pages are loading very sluggishly and often the page doesn’t end load at all so that one of their DUMB intrusive ADS can show up… now don’t get me wrong I don’t mind an Ad! But I do mind a website that is so GREEDY that I can’t get to the story that I want to read, nothing is more pathetic than that… I’ve been shutting the pages down of these sites and looking for other sites that actually load….

Just a few thoughts about this is all…

Wondering if anyone else has noticed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That’s NOT a free hosted WordPress.COM blog and we do not provide support for it here. You are posting to the wrong support forum. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and not for WordPress.org software installs. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  • Time loading my website is too slow. How can i improve it?

    My website link is ljiperdiary.wordpress.com

  • My WordPress blog, the Icebox, at http://hailhaiku.wordpress.com/ has just in the past few days suddenly become painfully slow to load or navigate in. I myself have done nothing new during that time. Does WordPress have some loading limitations temporarily imposed? Are they doing a few days of maintenance perhaps?

  • These are the ways to reduce page loading time:

    1. Edit your posts and insert “the more tag” so only excerpts appear on the front page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ Or use a theme that provides front page excerpts automatically.

    2. Reduce the number of posts appearing on the front page here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most _ posts

    3. Reduce the number of images and or media embeds displayed in posts and/or make them smaller.

    4. Reduce the number of widgets in the sidebar and footer areas.

  • Get this Plugin…

    W3 Total Cache

  • heelstone… your website loaded very fast for me, it could be you computer itself… you may have some Malware in there, recently I had a major threat that actually placed ads on my computer! Not even talking about going to a website! I was forced to get Norton to get rid of it… so do check your virus software and if you don’t have any it’s best to get it for peace of mind… I know I hate spending $50 bucks for it, but it is worth it!

  • @bluebyyou666
Please don’t post WordPress.ORG links here at WordPress.COM.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

See here for a full comparison WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
    http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes.

  • Oh, sorry okay…

  • If you want to answer WordPress.ORG questions you can do that here http://wordpress.org/support/ Here at WordPress.COM we are careful not to confuse the two. : )

  • Oh, yes, I appreciate it timethief! I just had such a time with this issue, I didn’t realize that the free WordPress was so different. But yes I’ll ‘take it over to the Org, when or if I have further troubles…

That part about the computer being down, though, is somewhat valid… as his site did load quickly for myself.

Thank you again, timethief and good luck to all having slowness issues here.

  • You’re welcome and best wishes.

  • I have a wordpress.com blog that has been terribly slow to load the last couple of days.

When I try to access it straight away, even without the /wp-admin, it just wont load – I have to go to URL wordpress.com, log in there, and then access it though “My blogs”.

That is troublesome enough, but the major problem would obviously be that my readers wont see the blog either.

    The blog is: kollegaredaktionen.se

Thanks in advance for any tips or tricks or plain information!

  • Oh, and there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. Works just fine with other sites.

    /gabriella

  • Same here Gabriella. Since last two or three days my site – lecturassumergidas.com- load time is very, very slow, both in the admin and the front-end, public site. No problem with any other non-wordpress sites. My internet conection is Fiber-100megas. I´m worried…
