Should I upgrade my wordpress platform?

    Hey everyone!

    I’m a volunteer tech guy/IT support/everything computer related staff member for a local High School Accapella group. I currently attend a specialized high school focused on computer science, and I can code in HTML, CSS, JS, Python, Java, XML, etc., but I’m new to WordPress. I was basically given an already functional site, and told to maintain it.

    It’s currently running WordPress 4.2.8. I’ve noticed for a while now that there are upgrades available. Is there any risk associated with upgrading the WordPress platform? I’m fully aware that this might result in the website going down for a bit while upgrading, I’m more concerned with any effect it may have in regards to layout, content, and functionality.

    While I’m here, I figure I’ll mention this as well – the loading time is abysmal. It was like that when I was told to keep maintaining it, and I honestly don’t know why it takes so long to load. The only thing I noticed is that I’m getting a couple of resource not found errors in the console, but I don’t think that would increase the loading time….

    These forums are only for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.com

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    And you should ask in the WordPress.org forums.

    Hi, you don’t need any languages like Java Programming, Python, CSS, HTML, etc to understand about wordpress. It is just a cms which is easy to understand by observing it. Still you have doubts please visit the link https://support.wordpress.com/ for wordpress support.

    And that site is not hosted by WordPress.com
