Second site management on one WordPress account possible?

  • I have purchased the Premium WordPress plan package for a company site I use for work, but I am wondering may I use this same WordPress account for my soccer team website I am building in my spare time?

It will have a completely independent website address etc and be a separate entity, but does my WordPress account have the functionality to allow to sites to be run off the same WordPress account?

Looking in to it myself, I cannot see such functionality yet searching on the forum shows responses implying it can be done, any help appreciated. Thanks

  • Hi,

You can have as many sites as you like, managed by your one account. Each site will remain separate and no content is shared between them. You can also select different plans for each site.

Your username will appear across each site on your account.

    Hope this helps :)

  • Hi there,

As @catkiinson already said, you can have as many sites as you like under a single WordPress.com account and each site will be independent.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

  • Thanks both, could someone direct me to where I would initially go to on the dashboard (or wherever applicable) to kick start a new website?
I had a look around before posting to answer the question myself but to no avail.

    Thanks!

  • If you’re on My Site, there should be an Add New Site link right at the bottom of the sidebar on the left. On sites that already own more than one site, you have to click on the Switch Site option at the top for that option to appear.

You can also use this direct link:

  • Hi, I am looking to build a second site on my one account as per above, I have purchased a premium plan for my initial site http://www.sustainablemedia.co.uk but separately I want to rebuild a site I have taken over http://www.oldwimbledonians.co.uk. I want to use this same premium account for this site – is that possible?

2 key questions around this really:

    1. Must I purchase a new premium plan to create/update the existing site or can I use the premium plan I have recently purchased to build http://www.sustainablemedia.co.uk?

    2. I want to build the http://www.oldwimbledonians.co.uk site on wordpress and then when it is good enough to go live I will switch the domain from the current location to wordpress and go live with the new site I build on wordpress – is this possible?
I have read that you can move a site from one location to here but I am not sure how this is done.

  • Howdy –

Happy to help clear things up.

I want to use this same premium account for this site – is that possible?

Each WordPress.com plan is good for 1 site. It’s a per site thing, not per account. You would need an additional plan in order to connect that custom domain to your account and get started.

If you don’t want to make that purchase at the moment you could consider starting on a free site and connecting the domain later on.

Go to My Sites – Domains – Add and from there you can register an additional free site.

I want to build the http://www.oldwimbledonians.co.uk site on wordpress and then when it is good enough to go live I will switch the domain from the current location to wordpress and go live with the new site I build on wordpress – is this possible?
    I have read that you

Yes, you can do this. The site can also be kept private which will hide it entirely from the internet until you’re ready to connect the domain and go live.

Moving the site content can be done through an import/export process. The domain can be connected here through mapping or an outright transfer.

    Import a Website

Do you know which of those options you plan to use?
