Search feature
-
Where did the search feature go for specific blog sites? I used to see it as a little magnifying glass in the top right corner. Now it seems to be missing from my desktop and mobile site. Frustrating when earthing my own posts for content. Is it moved, or gone?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could you clarify where the search feature was on your site? Was it part of your theme on an individual site or was it a search feature overall on WordPress.com? The theme you’re using on sometimesihatemycat.com (Chaotic Soul) is retired, but i don’t see a search feature on the theme screenshot here:

The screenshot you posted is what it looks like before you log in. After logging in there is a menu at the top that states, “dashboard,” etc….there used to be a search function in the top right corner, a little magnifying glass icon and a box next to it where I could type in a search word, next to the pic of my avatar. It is no longer there. But it also looks like they are in the process of changing things because suddenly there is a “new post” tab at the top that didn’t used to be there.

You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

It sounds to me like you are referring to the Admin side of the blog that visitors do not have access to. It sounds like your are referring to the Admin bar at the top that Staff have been making changes to.
-
Note that you can use omnisearch
https://sometimesihatemycat.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=omnisearch -
Thanks so much. Yea I am referring to the admin side. Omnisearch does work for my own site, however the search bar at the top used to also work for searching other sites that I visit. Now I cannot search other blog sites for keywords or content…which I use primarily for searching poetry themes. Not being able to do that is inconvenient and doesn’t allow me to explore older posts.

Thanks for clarifying sometimesihatemycat and timethief. We are making a few changes to the admin bar. However, the search icon should still be present from your Dashboard as shown here:
So, you should see it on the top right-hand corner here:
http://sometimesihatemycat.wordpress.com/wp-admin
That search icon is a quick link to omnisearch that Timethief mentions.
For searching other blogs across WordPress.com, you could use the search function here:
http://en.search.wordpress.com/
Here are a few more details about that search:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/
Alternatively, you could use tags in the reader (“poetry” for example) to find blogs that might interest you:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/
Would either of those options work?

Jeremy, thanks for the info. Yes the search box does still appear on my admin site. However, it used to stay there when I traveled to specific blogs, and it allowed my to search on that specific blog. The other search option you mentioned seems like it only searches all of the blogs and is too broad for my purposes. No I am finding it harder, if not impossible, to go to a specific blog, and do a keyword search for an older post that I might remember and want to find. Does this make sense? The tags don’t necessarily work for this purpose as they are not always tagged in a way that pulls up the keywords I am looking for. It seems like it makes it much harder to browse older poems, closes a window if you will.

@sometimesihatemycat
Will you please let jeremeylduvall know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
-
This is happening on my desktop and also on my iPad. I am entering through both safari (iPad) and through Internet explorer (desktop). I rarely use the WordPress mobile app. I don’t think it is a device issue, I think it is something that has changed on the design of the theme/site, but clearly I could be wrong. The header bar used to stay the same as I browsed other WordPress blogs, allowing me to search that site specifically. Now when I go to another blog, the header drops the search bar.
