Reverting back to classic editor

  • Hi,

I’ve blogged for a little while now and the new view is interesting but not really something I’m after.

How do I revert back to using the old admin style editor window?

From another post you could use an option under the dropdown. https://a.cl.ly/jkuKbvW1

However I don’t see this as an option and from the look of it, I just got auto migrated to the ‘new’ block view.

Where can I find the option to revert back to classic view?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Robert,

I’m just another blogger on this site and was upset to the see the changes when I logged in today. I did find this:

    Use the Classic block
Within the WordPress editor you’ll find the Classic block, which replicates the functionality of the Classic editor inside of the block editor.

When you create a post, if you click the plus sign at the top right of the editor, then start typing “classic” in the search box it brings up something like the old view. I don’t think it will be suitable for my needs and I’m thinking of leaving WordPress altogether (10 years of nature photos :( ).

I just tried it and now I can’t find the same editor using code rather than images. Then when I tried to save a draft I was not able to as “I do not have the rights”. I hope you have better luck.

  • @robertdona It is still possible to use to the classic editor when writing/editing posts/pages in your site’s Dashboard, but to do so you will need to access the “wp-admin” dashboard on your site: https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/

If you use the standard wordpress.com dashboard, that will default to the new block editor which is what you are seeing now.

We also recommend the classic block, which is a block you can add to “insert” the classic editor inside of the newer block editor, and has the familiar formatting tools you are used to: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/

  • @meadowhawk the permissions issue you are referring to is one that our engineers are working on fixing now. You are using Chrome, yes?

If so please try clearing your cache and cookies, and then sign out of WordPress.com (and then sign back in again) and that issue should disappear for you. You can also use another browser like Firefox for now.

I just tried it and now I can’t find the same editor using code rather than images.

I’m not sure what you meant by that, can you explain? what is it that you are accustomed to doing in the classic editor that you cannot do in the newer “Classic block” happy to take a closer look!
