rel="nofollow" is automatically added by wordpress to a link

I see a nofollow in the sourcecode for the previous post for Zemanta links but not for the scienceofrunning.com links.
At any rate, I’m confused as to why it worries you if a link to another site has nofollow as part of the link or not. It has no bearing on your blog, your SEO, or your followers. Could you explain why this concerns you, so we can understand what you’re trying to resolve here?

But to answer the last question; I was trying to do it because I want control of the links I make myself, specifically their dofollow/nofollow status. Just that.

Right, as long as you insert the links yourself via the WordPress.com post editor, they won’t have a nofollow tag applied. However, links added via Zemanta will have a nofollow tag applied.
