Problems with rss feed for one website receiving all three websites that I have.

  • I spoke with someone earlier today about this problem and was referred to WordPress.org since my sites are self-hosted. The problem WordPress.org said is with the Reader which is managed by WordPress.com.

My blog: http://susanspetblog.com comes up on the Reader as Susan’s Blog: The Inner Soul (another self-hosted site of mine). It lists as an RSS feed but it shows blogs from all three of my self-hosted sites. (http://susanspetblog.com, http://susansblogtheinnersoul.com, and http://susanscreativewritingandpoetry.com). They checked the RSS feed for each of my sites and so did I and they all come up correctly per website with their own blogs. It is only The Reader that gives it incorrectly and my biggest concern is that I have a lot of WordPress bloggers using The Reader that read my three blogs and they aren’t getting the right information. Please help me since this is an issue with The Reader. See Below…

I have three sites hosted by Godaddy. http://susanspetblog.comhttp://susansblogtheinnersoul.com and http://susanscreativewritingandpoetry.com.
When I type in to follow in the Reader http://susanspetblog.com and it comes up listed as Susan’s Blog: The Inner Soul (my 2nd site). When I click on that, it gives me the feed info for susanspetblog, com, susansblogtheinnersoul.com, and susanscreativewritingandpoetry.com. I don’t understand why this is. I spoke with WordPress.com about this and they said they couldn’t access my accounts and you or Godaddy would need to fix this. Help me please because I am being shuffled from one place to another. Thanks. Susan

Sorry to direct this back to WordPress.com, but they’ll need to fix this over on their end. It’s possible that you spoke with one of the volunteers over there rather than a staff member who could have helped you. The volunteers over there are somethings quick to redirect self-hosted WordPress folks back here, even when it is a problem on the WordPress.com end.
http://susanspetblog.com/ works fine, and its feed http://susanspetblog.com/feed/displays posts from it without redirecting.
Please feel free to see for yourself via http://jhuff.me/view/ which is a super-basic feed reader that I set up just for things like this. :)
If the Reader at WordPress.com is not displaying the right site when you addhttp://susanspetblog.com/feed/ then you have to talk to the folks at WordPress.com about that.

  • It is now May 11th and have had no response to my problem. Why??? Please address this issue so WordPress.com doesn’t get a bad reputation. I would like this problem escalated to a supervisor ASAP. Thank you.

    Please check out https://wordpress.com/read/blog/feed/34354452/.
In the Reader, it comes up as Susan’s Blog: The Inner Soul RSS feed but this is after I have entered http://susanspetblog.com. All the information is from one month ago or more and is not current to date with blogs I have posted since the last month. However, when I enter http://susanspetblog.com/feed as an internet address, the correct and current info comes up. This is not so in the Reader.

  • It is now June 15th and the problem is not responded to or resolved.

  • I’m just replying here to what you posted on the other thread. I fully understand your frustration at this thread having fallen through the cracks. Sadly that happens sometimes. But this thread is tagged now so staff will hopefully get to it soon. Please don’t post here again until they do, as each new post moves your thread to the back of the queue. Just be patient a little longer.

  • Hi Susan,

Sorry we missed this post. If you would like to flag a post for staff attention please add the tag “modlook” (without the quotes).

The Reader accesses your sites via the Jetpack plugin. I have looked into your account and found that you’ve changed your site address since connecting Jetpack originally.

I needed to make some updates to your site’s Jetpack connection on our end. Can I have you disconnect and reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account for each site? This will refresh those settings in the Reader.

If you’re still having trouble let us know and we can take another look.

  • Just got this message. Will disconnect jetpack now.

  • Okay. I have disconnected jetpack and reconnected it on all three sites.
I will let you know if the Reader is still incorrect.

    Thank you. Susan

  • Hi Susan,

Things are already looking better on our end. Let us know if you do have any other questions as we’d be happy to help.

  • All is working better except I can’t get Susanspetblog to show up in the Reader. This is http://susanspetblog.com. I tried again disconnecting and reconnecting jetpack but still it doesn’t show up. It should show up as RSS feed. The other two do show up. I tried both /?feed=rss2 and /feed but it shows up as RSS feed under the correct name but there are no posts that show up. When I check directly to the feeds from my site, the posts show up. Help??

  • Hi Susan,

The Reader accepts any site URL which has a feed. However, you’ll need to add the site to your reader page manually, it will not automatically appear.

I was able to follow your blog in the Reader by entering the URL: http://susanspetblog.com into the reader settings at:
    https://wordpress.com/following/edit/

Please note, it may take your posts an hour or two before the appear in the reader.
