Problem with my post page.
-
I am trying to do today’s assignment. We are advised to add a tag to our blog using the box in the bottom right of the post page. The trouble is I don’t have that box on my page. In fact the page where I write posts looks very different from the one shown in the example. It’s much simpler.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi susanappleyardwriter,
I’m guessing you are seeing the new Edit Post screen. Does it look different than the screen shots found on https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/tags/ ?
If your Edit Post screen is blue in color, the Tags & Categories box should be the third one down on the left.
-
Yes, it is very different from the example shown. It is blue but there is nothing below the writing box except buttons for Preview, Save Draft and Publish
-
That’s strange.
Are you the Administrator of the site? If not, your User Role may limit your ability to add tags.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the exact same username that registered the blog, then it sounds like you are using the new BEEP BEEP BOOP editor to me. I don’t use it because its features are limited and buggy.
Your 100 most used tags and categories are loaded, then the first 20 are displayed alphabetically. Starting to type a category/tag name pulls up all the matching options. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/32?replies=942#post-2338964
I use only the classic editor. If you would like to try using it then your issue may evaporate. You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

We are advised to add a tag to our blog using the box in the bottom right of the post page.
Who advised this please?
Are you involved in some type of blogging course? -
Hi susanappleyardwriter,
I see you’re signed up for the Blogging 101 course, and today’s assignment linked you to this support page about adding tags:
Sorry for the confusion! That support page shows how to add tags in the classic editor, so if you’re using the new editor at https://wordpress.com/post you’ll see a different, simpler interface. To add tags there, you can go to the “Tags & Categories” section in the left sidebar and add in your tags in the Tags box. (You can type the tag in and hit enter to add it to your post.)
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

@rachelmcr: susanappleyardwriter reports that she doesn’t see the “Tags & Categories” section.

Although she may have not have looked in the left-hand column…just ignore my comment until susanappleyardwriter chimes back in…

I would like to thank everyone who sent a comment on my problem. As one commentator suggested, it was the fact that I had a different editor from the one shown in a the example of our assignment in blogging 101 that created the initial problem.

Timethief, you are right I am using BEEP BEEP BOOP. But after spending fully 3 hours trying to find out where to create a tag on my post page, I predict it will be quite a long time before I have the confidence to try to change me editor. But thanks anyway.
