Post excerpt – Content options
-
I’ve gone over to self-hosted but am still using the same theme ‘Twenty-Seventeen’ but I do not have the option to edit ‘Content Options’. I’ve been trying to edit the “<?php the_content(); ?>” option but can’t find it in the theme editor. I want to by default have posts only showing excerpts on the home page. Can anyone provide assistance?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
There are some differences with what you can do on WordPress.com versus self hosted WordPress even though your theme stays the same. Content options are built in to WordPress.com but not available on self hosted.

This information should help you get a post excerpt established on the blog: https://wordpress.org/support/article/excerpt/

I tried the suggestion but it doesn’t work. Do you know how to get the other option from wordpress.com to wordpress.org

@rubyraereads since you do have Jetpack, you can add content options to your theme with these instructions:
Be sure you’re editing a child theme, though, so that updates on your base theme will continue to function.

We really can’t help with WordPress.org sites here beyond sharing documentation.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
