Pointing Domains
-
Hey there!
I am working with a client that currently has a WordPress.com blog and it is set up via “Domains” in her dashboard to redirect to another “registered” domain (no hosting in place yet). We are going to make the move to WordPress.org and I am little confused about something. Once she arranges hosting for her self hosted domain, will her WordPress.com blog still redirect to that domain without being affected? She wants to keep her WP.com blog “live” while we work on her new WP.org site using a sub domain.
Does that make sense?
Thanks. :-)

Depends on the domains in question. What are they, please, starting with http. We can’t answer any questions until we know what blogs and what URLs we are talking about.

You might want to take a look at this support document on a trick for redirecting using the domain mapping: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/redirecting-your-blog/ .

Thank you guys. I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around this. Right now it is set up like this.
oceancitymd.wordpress.com is redirected to oceancitymdrealtyblog.com
Currently there is no hosting for oceancitymdrealtyblog.com, its just a registered domain. We want to order hosting for it, but we would like to keep the redirect the way it is so this site stays “live” while I work on her new site using a fresh WP install on a sub domain.
Can this be done? Or have I totally confused you?
Thanks.

@agentsolutions Most web hosts will let you work on a hosting account with a domain through them. You could do this before moving your domain over to their name servers.
