png images have white background, want transparent background

  • Just started this site. Still clunky, sorry! Am copying and pasting from old site. I have png images on this page that have transparent backgrounds on the old site but here show a white background. How do I make the background of all images on this page transparent?

  • To make sure we’re on the same page, are you talking about this particular site? https://soroptimistfortbraggca.wordpress.com/

I opened a page on this WordPress.com site, https://soroptimistfortbraggca.wordpress.com/sponsors-for-the-whale-run-walk/, and from what I see, the images uploaded here are in JPG/JPEG format.

Can you double-check if you are uploading your images to your WordPress.com site in PNG format, please? When you upload PNG files to your WordPress.com site, they should be processed as PNG files and not converted to JPG/JPEG.

I would encourage you to check your original images’ file formats and then upload them to your WordPress.com media library.

Let me know what happens! I am around if you have questions.

  • Sorry I wasn’t very specific. I was referring to only a few images I loaded as png. I am going to swap all the images out for png’s eventually. The site is for a non-profit who won’t pay for the premium or business level, so I won’t have access to the editor or CSS styles.

So this is all a moot point. sorry to have wasted your time.

  • Just to let you know (in case you know any way I can do this at the basic level of WordPress) it is the Skunk train png that had a transparent background on my other website.

You needn’t apologize. The point of members spending time and putting in efforts on the WordPress.com community forums is to help others.

Thanks for sharing. I just checked this image and it turns out this is indeed an image, but it’s a PNG image with white background. This is a design mistake that needs to be answered by the image designer. PNG images need not necessarily be transparent – if they’re made with a different background (white background here) and not transparent background, they will show up as they are.

One workaround can be – you can set your WordPress.com site’s background to white, to blend with the Skunk train’s image, but note that it might affect all other images and content.

I hope this helps clarify things. Feel free to get back if you have questions and I will be keen on helping you through it!
