The Top Posts and Pages widget doesn’t allow for thumbnail size modification, but they will display somewhat larger on other themes.
You could change the “Display as…” setting to “Grid.”That will result in larger image links displayed in a grid pattern, but the titles won’t be displayed. The visitor may see the title of each post or page by hovering over the image.

I don’t know. I just noticed that on the theme I’m using, Koi, the thumbnail images in the Top Posts and Pages widget are are considerably larger.

The image size in the Top Posts and Pages widget is fixed, and isn’t something that is different from theme to theme. If you choose the “grid” option as musicdoc1 suggested, larger images will be displayed, and you’ll see the post title when you mouse over the image.

I also just noticed your site is self-hosted. If your widget is coming from Jetpack’s “Extra Sidebar Widgets” module, you may be able to modify the image size in a child theme function.
You could ask for help with this in the Jetpack forum:

@ kathrynwp,
I don’t know the reason, but the images displayed in the Top Posts & Pages widget on my test with the Koi theme appear to be about three times larger in area than the images in the same widget on http://www.goeatandrepeat.com/.

What does it mean to be self hosted?
It means that you’re running the WordPress software on your own hosting, instead of being hosted here at WordPress.com. You can learn more:
