Page URL links to page which does not exist
-
Hello,
I am trying to link to another page using a button from my main page. However, the link directs to a page which is not published or in any of my drafts. I try and change the permalink but, it always directs to this other web page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks like both your current buttons “Gear” and “Recommendations” have linking issues.
Gear is linked to editing a page in your site’s Pages dashboard rather than to a published page.
Recommendations is currently linked to a page which you might have deleted.
I see a published page at https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/podcasting-equipment/ which is titled “recommendations” but I’m not sure if that’s your gear page or your recommendations page.
You might find it more convenient to use a navigation menu rather than adding buttons since the navigation menu will show you published pages you can links to. There’s more on working with the Lativ theme at its showcase page at https://wordpress.com/theme/lativ/ under “Personalize your site“.

Yes, no matter what I rename the permalink to it always links to that recommendations page. I need that recommendations page but I also need the other one with gear/equipment too. I copied the gear/podcasting equipment page hoping that would generate a different link but that too links to the recommendations page.

That’s very odd.
I’ve flagged your forum thread for Staff assistance as they are able to see behind the scenes.

Hi Folks –
Thanks for getting this tagged for staff attention.
Please let me know which link you would want to see with each button and I’ll get that fixed up – and then report back for you here.

Hello. Thank you for your help.
This page, https://wordpress.com/page/starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/139 should be associate with the button labeled “Gear.”
However, anytime I paste that page’s link to the button, it routes to a page titled “Recommendations” with completely different content.
-
Hi @starwarsrewatchpodcast – this is actually a link to your editor page:
https://wordpress.com/page/starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/139
Users won’t be able to see your editor, so I’ve fixed “gear” so that it links to the published page instead:
https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/podcasting-equipment/
What is the Recommendations button supposed to link to? I wasn’t able to find another published page with that name, but if you’ll share more about what you have in mind we can likely help.
Also — did you only want those buttons to appear on the home page, or are you hoping to make them available throughout the site as navigation? Let us know; we can help you with this tutorial for setting up a menu if needed, or you could add buttons to your header.

If
https://wordpress.com/page/starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/139
is an editor page why does this this link https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/podcasting-equipment/ once published show completely different content? It links to the “Recommendations” page which looks like this. https://imgur.com/a/JDewXUeGear should look like this. https://imgur.com/a/W4VPKUN

Hey there!
Happy to help you with this.
why does this this link https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/podcasting-equipment/ once published show completely different content? It links to the “Recommendations”
Ah – so I’ve taken a look and all is not what it seems.
To explain, https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/podcasting-equipment/ is not linking to Recommendations.
Instead, you’re seeing content that has been added to the pages template… and the template will overwrite the content.
The Pages content (and where you’re seeing the Recommendations content) can be edited here: https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postType=wp_template&postId=pub%2Flativ%2F%2Fpage
To fix this, you need to do the following:
- Replace “Recommendations” with a Post title block: https://wordpress.com/support/site-editor/theme-blocks/query-loop-block/#post-title-block.
- Replace the content, everything from and including, “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” with a Post content block: https://wordpress.com/support/site-editing/theme-blocks/post-content-block/
You would then need to copy/past the “Recommendations” content onto a new page, via Pages > Add New.
It’s possible to add other pieces of content in the template, (featured images, meta information..etc.) and this guide here, has more information on templating: https://wordpress.com/support/templates/edit-the-page-template/.
Out of curiosity, are you launching a podcast? What are your plans? Perhaps I can provide more guidance as to what you may need.

Hey!
Awesome! Glad to hear it! To your credit, many others have found themselves at that station – it’s quite common to get there. :)
I’m going to listen to this Podcast a bit later! You can always submit the feed to PocketCasts too for good measure. https://pocketcasts.com/podcast-producers/ – it’s a popular podcasting platform.

Yes, I noticed you have the domain starwarsrewatchpodcast.com (which is perfect for your site and podcast by the way!), but in order to set it to a custom primary domain, you’d need a paid plan.
At a minimum the WordPress.com Personal Plan would be required. What features do you have in mind (for example, selling merch, contact forms…etc) for the site? Ideally, you’d be looking to kill as many birds with as few stones as possible with the right plan.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

What did I pay $19.99 for? Was if for https://starwarsrewatchpodcast.wordpress.com/ this domain?
-
-
Hi there,
The $19 was only for the domain registration. To make that domain your site’s primary address and add some more features, a paid plan is needed. Let me know if you need help selecting a plan.
Also, thank you for sharing a link to your podcast!
