No button for the search function in the Kubrick theme

  • Hello,

I have just started my blog and would like to give the possiblity for my viewers to search through my different posts so in order to do that I added the “search widget”. The problem that I am currently expriencing is that the “search” button doesn’t show up next to the texbox so in order to search the blog the users have to type their keyword then hit ‘Enter”. Although this doesn’t actually distrub me, I have gotten many complains about people who don’t seem to realialize that they have to hit the ‘Enter” key despite my explaination bellow. So my question is as follow:
Is this a bug in my blog or just a missing feature ? In the first case how do I resolve it ? In the second case, would it be possible for the developpers to add this button ?

I have searched the forum for my issue but have not found it, please forgive me if this question has already been asked.

    Thanks in advance,

    Alimounir

P.S: Please note that my blog is in French

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Before you get too far along, you may want to check with Support that what you are doing falls within WordPress.com’s ToS. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  • No worries, I had checked that and I don’t seem to be able to find my issue…and yes I am running a blog hosted on wordpress.com

In a nutshell no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM

The advertising exceptions noted in support documentation are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and for extremely high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.

The exceptions noted in support documentation with regard to affiliate links are found here:

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

  • Hello,

Thank you for taking an interest in my blog. I would like to clarify the purpose my blog, even thought that is not why I origanally came to the forum, my blog is intended as a way for me to expose/show my my spare perfume cards so that I can exchange them with other people. So in other words as you can see I have put the term “value” and not “price” is because it is intended as as a value to have our exchanges. So to sum up the value is meant to show the idea of the rarity of the card so that other people can propose exchanges of cards with the same value.

So if I am not mistaken I am in no way violating the rules of wordpress…

Is there any news reguarding my original “problem” ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Alimounir

  • Thanks for the clarity of the cards.

The problem that I am currently expriencing is that the “search” button doesn’t show up next to the texbox so in order to search the blog the users have to type their keyword then hit ‘Enter”.

The way the searchbox is displaying on your blog is “normal”. You could post a notice below it in a text widget explaining to visitors that they must click “Enter” to get search results to display. Aside from that I have no suggestion I can make.

  • What about changing the title of the Search widget, something like “Click Enter to Search”?

  • That’s currently what I’ve been doing but I just wanted to know if this could be changed…For those people who can’t seem to figure it out…

    Thanks

    Alimounir

  • No it cannot be changed – sorry. :( We cannot edit themes or templates on free hosted wordpress.com blogs.

  • Each theme here is different. Some themes have a button for the search widget and some do not and it was the designer’s choice whether they included one or not. Most newer themes have a button, but Kubrick is a very, very old theme.

  • ~~TSP
    G’day to you & Tx. :)

  • Maybe it would be a good idea to update it ? Don’t you think ? Is there a suggestion box ?

    Thanks

    Alimounir

  • You can make that suggestion to Theme Staff by using this link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

But I would do that unless or until I had explored all the over 100 theme choices as many of the new ones have some really cool features. The Themes Showcase & live demo site with features filters is here. http://theme.wordpress.com/

  • EDIT: But I would not do that …

  • FWIW-Twenty Ten seems to have overtaken Kubrick as the most popular theme on WordPress.com. But the OP was asking about an improvement to Kubrick. :)

  • Yes, indeed for many years Kubrick was the default theme but it was replaced with Twenty Ten which has many very nice features. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyten/

  • Staff, from past experience, are quite reluctant to make any visible changes to existing themes here since even seemingly benign changes can bring a flood of complaints to the forums, and directly to staff, complete with pitchforks, torches, and the heads of those responsible.
