NO ADD NEW BUTTON IN THE ADD MEDIA SELECTOR
-
Hello, why is there not an add new button in the add media selector?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi,
Not sure what you mean by “add media selector.” The “Add Media” button in the admin menu of the new (at My Sites) post editor opens a popup module which connects to your media library. At the top of the module are the buttons “Add New” and “Add via URL.”
-
Yes the add media button. In that there is no ADD NEW or ADD VIA URL at all on my screen for some reason. And what you mean by admin menu.
-
And what you mean by admin menu.
Sorry. I meant the toolbar of the post editor.
In that there is no ADD NEW or ADD VIA URL at all on my screen for some reason.
Have you clicked on the “Add Media” button in the toolbar? If this doesn’t open the module that I’ve described above, then I’d suggest that you add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
-
<modlook> Please look at why my add media button is not in the toolbar for my posts. It doesn’t show up in the add media button </modlook>
-
The “new” dashboard can be buggy and sensitive. In HTML mode for adding posts I don’t see ANY of the toolbar let alone the “Add Media” button. In the Visual editor everything is there. Using the “old” dashboard (add wp-admin to your address) will probably solve the issue.
PS: You need to add “modlook” into the tag box on the right rather than in the body of the post.

Hello –
There are 2 views of the post editor. These are “Visual” and “HTML” You will see them in the upper right corner of this screen shot.
You’ll need to click on the visual editor tab to load the full post editor toolbar. At the top, on the far left, is a + inside a circle with a little down arrow. That is where you will find the +add media button.
You are able to work from the text editor (html view) and add media in the same screen from the WP-Admin Dashboard.
Add
/wp-admin
to the end of your site URL. On the left is your dashboard. Locate Posts and open it.
Let me know if you need anything else :)

Ok https://wordpress.com/post/hagensalley.com/2277/wp-admin brings up just a page that shows My site / reader and the usual I icons to the top right. No way to edit anything on here.
-
-
Oh ok. I got in there and see another place to post. Even that editor doesn’t have the + mark I can get into the html part and post my pics on photobucket and link them I suppose. Why doesn’t someone fix this problem of the + not appearing anywhere? I am using Google chrome and also tried it in Explorer too.
-
Remember you’re looking for the “Add Media” button then “Upload Files” to insert an image in wp-admin.
If you’re positive that there’s no add media button or upload files button even when using the wp-admin editor “add new post” and you’ve tried various browsers perhaps you could make a screenshot of what you see. That might help staff to troubleshoot this issue.
-
Drat copy and paste. The last paragraph disappeared from the above.
I meant to finish with:-But of course if you can’t get to upload an image into WordPress, you’d need to post a screenshot to an external site like Photobucket.

I think the instruction and the screen shot provided by lizkarkoski refers to an older version of the editor. There’s no + sign anymore. In the My Sites post editor (visual mode) you’ll see just an icon at the far left of the top row of icons in the visual editor toolbar, next to “Paragraph.” Click on the icon to open the Add Media module.
In the wp-admin post editor, in either visual or text mode, you’ll find an Add Media button in the same location, leftmost button of the top row in the toolbar.
-
Yes I see that icon. When I click on it, all I am seeing is different pictures and what not. There is no way to add images from my computer. Would have been nice if they would incorporate pasting options that would make this a bunch easier but whatever.
-
Hi,
There is no way to add images from my computer.
At the My Sites post or page editor Add Media module, the “Add New” button opens to your computer’s files.
At the corresponding wp-admin post/page editor Insert Media module, there is no “Add New” button, but there is a “Upload Files” link which allows you to accomplish the same thing as the Add New button, upload files from your computer.
-
I can only come to the conclusion that you must be a premium member for that to be there. It’s not showing up no matter which way on mine.

@nobeac-As themagicrobot also mentioned, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/no-add-new-button-in-the-add-media-selector?replies=17#post-2756678 it would be helpful to see a screenshot of what you are seeing. You can upload it to photobucket and paste the link here.
The Add Media button in the New Dash Post Editor should be the same on a free or upgraded site. But, as lizkarkoski pointed out above, the Add Media button only appears in the Visual Editor tab. There are no buttons at all in the HTML Editor tab in the New Dash Post Editor (at least on my computer).
But in the Visual Editor, after I click the Add Media button I land on this screen. (temporary screenshot) which has buttons for both Add New and Add via URL options. I’m using Chrome and Firefox latest and Win10Pro.
Have you tried logging out, emptying your browser cache and cookies and then closing your browser entirely? (This will also log you out of any other sites you are logged in to.)
If that doesn’t make the “Add New” and “Add via URL” buttons reappear for you on that screen, please let us know what your computer environment is, the OS and browser you use to visit/edit WordPressdotcom. If you are not sure, you can visit this site http://supportdetails.com/ and let us know the results here.
(FWIW- it’s also possible to drag and drop images from your computer directly onto the editing screen in the Visual Editor.)
-
Ok I tried everything you were telling me about clearing cache and restart and all that, nothing and also tried to drag and drop the pics. I see a thing that says +COPY on the screen and when I let go of the mouse button, it doesn’t want to do anything after that and nothing shows on the screen for some reason.
