New Jetpack Search is PAINFUL

  • I’m so frustrated right now. Jetpack made a big stink about their new stand alone Search plugin. Looks great, right? However, it doesn’t work! You can’t set it up.

Instead, their sign up flow tries to get you to transfer your domain to their hosting. I don’t think this is intentional bait and switch, someone just forgot to change the flow.

*I did manage to connect my site at one point. However, it would only index on post. Sigh.

  • Hi there,

Can you confirm the URL of the site you’re trying to use with Jetpack Search?

If you’re trying to use Jetpack search on a site hosted with us on WordPress.com, you can follow the process at https://wordpress.com/en/support/jetpack-search/ to purchase that add-on for your site.

It looks like you bought that add-on yesterday for the site at gadgetreview963736901.wordpress.com

If you have a WordPress site hosted at another provider, install the Jetpack plugin or the Jetpack Search plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack-search/ – if you only want this specific service rather than all of Jetpack), and connect it to your WordPress.com account. Once your site is connected via Jetpack, you can buy the Site Search plan for that Jetpack-connected site.

If you’d meant to buy the plan you bought for the WordPress.com site for a self-hosted site instead, let me know and we can help you straighten that out :)

Jetpack isn’t a hosting or a domain provider, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

You use Jetpack to connect a site hosted somewhere else to a username account on WordPress.com, to gain access to some WordPress.com-specific features (i.e. features that aren’t built into the open source version of WordPress by default), and services Jetpack provides via our servers, including Search.

You don’t need to be hosted on WordPress.com to use Jetpack Search, or any of the other features/services included in other Jetpack plugins. You just need your existing site to be connected to WordPress.com through the plugin.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any more questions.
