My email follower number shows way higher that actual followers

I only have 26 followers on my blog, and have only had around 250 page views total. Today I added the follow by email widget in my sidebar, but the widget is showing I have over 2,000 followers by email, but I’m sure I don’t have any followers by email yet. Why is it showing such a high number?

It sounds like you’ve connected Facebook, Twitter, or other social accounts, and the site is counting these in that number.
If you have connected any of your social networking services (such as Facebook or Twitter) through our Publicize feature, counts for your followers on those services will also be shown.
Does that explain the numbers that you’re seeing?
