Migrate platform to WordPress
-
I’d like to move the backend for a website I operate to a WordPress backend. To my understanding this is possible, as I own the domain.
Can someone confirm whether this is possible? Can I migrate all the formatting, interface and copy to the new backend, or will I have to start from scratch? Anything else to be aware of?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello!
If I may ask, what platform was the website built on?
If you go to illinoisselfinsurance.wordpress.com/wp-admin, then ‘Tools’ -> ‘Import’, you’ll see a number of hosting systems that can be imported to WordPress.com. Is yours on that list?
I hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

It was built on Joomla, which isn’t on the hosting systems list.
Is there another way it can be imported?

Hi,
There is a way, and I found this post by staff @mark…
You may well get more specific help at WordPress.org
What I would do is install Joomla on your computer using MAMP or XAMPP. (I assume the Joomla website has details on this).
You could then use your backup to recreate the old site. Also install WordPress on your computer:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Installing_WordPress_on_your_own_ComputerIf you then use one of these plugins:
https://wordpress.org/search/joomla
they should enable you to move the data between the two. Finally you could export the WordPress XML file from your computer and into a WordPress.com site.
Note: Doing this will *not* import any media files. You would either
1 – do all the above online in a domain
2 – upload and re-link all the media after the import. That seems to be your only option other than using your Joomla site as a template for your new WordPress.com
Good luck!
