Mapping to another host
-
I paid to have a unique URL with WordPress (www.davidjconstable.com) and I am trying to map the website to another host. I have been looking through WordPress and have come unstuck at the DNS stages. Please can you advise.

Hi there,
Just in case you haven’t seen it, we have a guide to help with this here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/
If you have seen it, let me know which part you are getting stuck on.

Thanks, but I want to point the domain to squarespace.com but couldn’t find a way to make alias and cname changes.

Hi there,
You’ll want to find out what settings Squarespace requires for your domain to connect to your account with them.
They may provide you with nameservers, an A record, a CNAME record, or other types of records.
Once you have that information, just let me know here, and I’ll assist with the domain setting changes.
-
But who is my domain provider, seeing as I paid WordPress to lose the .wordpress.com feature from my blog URL?
-
This is what I received from Squarespace:
Squarespace doesn’t act as your name server, so your name servers would be provided by the company responsible for hosting your domain.
In order to map your domain to Squarespace your provider will need to offer full DNS services, including the ability to add a CNAME.
-
Hello again,
WordPress.com is actually your domain provider. We offer the full DNS services and the CNAME ability as mentioned by Squarespace.
Just let them know this, and ask them to provide you with the specific DNS records needed to map your domain to your Squarespace account.
Once I have those, I can help you get those entered so that your domain connects to your Squarespace site.

This is what Squarespace have told me:
What you can do here is provide WordPress with our general guide on mapping so they know exactly what you’re trying to accomplish:
http://help.squarespace.com/customer/portal/articles/413088-mapping-a-domain-general-instructions-
Essentially, they should be able to take a look at the guide and change your CNAME and A Records.

Hi there,
Thank you for providing this information. I have just made the appropriate changes to your davidjconstable.com domain.
When a domain is altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world.
This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors”. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records.
Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.
If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesIf that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache:
