Making the switch to WordPress.org….

  • Hello!

So as my blog grows I feel like I have more opportunities with a platform that allows ad’s. I know some WP.com blogs are allowed ads & there is a form to fill out. What qualifies someone to stay with WP.com & have ads on their site?

If I switch to WP.org – do my followers stay the same or do I basically start over again?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello,

From the WordPress advertising support page:

    • We have a feature called WordAds that lets WordPress.com bloggers with moderate to high traffic and appropriate content turn on ads and earn money from their blogs.
    • You can run any ads you’d like if you manage your own WordPress installation. More info, including hosting recommendations, can be found at get.wp.com.
    • WordPress.com VIP and Enterprise sites are permitted to run ads.

More useful stuff there at the link should help you figure out the best option for you. There also should be some info on the issue of migrating and keeping followers in the Support Topics on the right of that page.
