Lost password bug–cannot log in!
-
Hello,
My problem is that I am unable to sign in to my wordpress account. I know my username (and thought I knew my password!), but after repeated failures to log in online, I decided to reset my password. I entered my email address and received the reset email from wordpress. When I follow the link in this email, I’m prompted to put in my new password. The problem is that once I click OK, I get the error message: “Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid.”
It seems that there is some bug that doesn’t recognize that I reset my password, but has now locked me out of my account.
I searched for this problem on the wordpress.org forums and saw that it’s been encountered before. However, I just use the web version of wordpress (I haven’t downloaded anything, I don’t have a “version” of WP), and I’m completely confused by how to fix this. I don’t know how to use phpMyAdmin, I don’t know how to code, I’m just hoping someone can give me straightforward instructions for how to restore access back to my blog! I’d be eternally grateful!
By the way, my username is abbyblue22 (I can’t use it to post this question since I can’t log in).

I am also having this problem – I’ve had to create another account on wordpress so I can login to the forum because I’m locked out of my actual account.
I seem to be stuck in an endless cycle as Abby describes above, whereby I get the error message “Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid.”
I am positive I had the correct password originally, but was unable to login.
As with Abby, any help would be gratefully received!
My blog URL is aloeveravegan.wordpress.com
Thanks
Jenny

I’ve had exactly the same problem as above – have been stuck in the loop for a while so very glad this isn’t just me! Also sure I used the correct password, and strangely I can still navigate on my iPhone.
My blog URL is excepttheshoes.wordpress.com.
Thanks!

Gah! So glad this isn’t just me!
Set up a new blog yesterday on a new e-mail (using my personal blog login to access this); this morning I went to login with what I’m SURE was the password. No go. Tried about five times, decided I’d obviously got it wrong so I’d just re-set it. But when I click the e-mail link and try to enter a new password it just comes up with this message:
‘Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid’
Have tried randomly all day to reset this darn password but everytime I get this message and I’m at my wits end. Have also been trying the original password, but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Blog I’m having problems with is studhamwi.wordpress.com
Thank you!

What are you doing to resolve this issue?
What have you done to resolve your issue? Below is a checklist I work through before I post a thread for Staff help. Maybe it will helpful for you and the others to do the same checks while waiting.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -
Add me to the list of folks experiencing this same problem, in my case at http://guardiansofcraft.wordpress.com.
Timethief, in light of your second message, I’m curious: Did you tag this thread for Staff?

Many thanks for this timethief.
I’ve tried most of the above, clearing cache, trying other browsers, etc. but hasn’t seemed to have worked so far – happy to hear if anyone else has found a solution, though! Will see if any of the others work (currently at work, so will see if it’s different when I get home).
Realised I didn’t give my blog URL properly: http://excepttheshoes.wordpress.com
