Hello,
I am not able to create working links anymore on my blog.
uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com
(I have created links in the past which worked.) Now I am getting highlighted (blue) underlined links which do not work. I have followed the procedure outlined in the support pages for wordpress. Links to outside websites and to my own past posts do not work.
Help! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you are not posting advertising or affiliate links the software will not strip them out.
I don’t copy and paste links into posts and pages. Is that what you are doing?
I do what’s in this guide to for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
<a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>
Enter your anchor text you want to link to first.
Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text.
Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link. -
I looked at your blog and in your most recent post I see this (http://uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/changing-seasons/). That’s not the format for an active link.
This is the format for an active link without anchor text:
<a href="http://uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com/2012/10/15/changing-seasons/</a>
It produces this result:
This is the active link with anchor text:

Hello,
The reason I have the address written out as you have pointed out above is because I could not get a link to work. I will try it again, typing instead of copy/pasting (why?) and see if it will work.
Thank you.OK, followed your instructions on the links-support page and as directed in your answer above. Using Visual, not Text tab. Getting blue, underlined text which does not function as a link.

Hello,
A fellow blogger suggested to me that the link would not function until I hit the “publish” button. Once published, the link DOES open a new page, but it says “This page not found” or “topic related searching”.
Please advise me on how to create functioning links, which I have done on this website in this theme in past posts!
Thank You. -
This thread is flagged for Staff attention. Are you using a Chrome browser? If so have your tried using Firefox? To do that see here http://browsehappy.com

Links aren’t be clickable unless you click the “Preview” button to view your post or page in a new browser tab or window. Links are also clickable once you publish the page. They are not clickable in the Visual or Text Editor.
Once published, the link DOES open a new page, but it says “This page not found” or “topic related searching”.
Could you please provide a link to a post where you’re having this problem so I can take a look? Thanks.

I took them out of the latest post but I will put them back in following the instructions so that you can see what’s going on.
The blog is
uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com
The post is
http://uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/getting-back-to-my-chores/OK, I just recreated the links and they worked. I am working from a different computer –don’t know if that makes a difference.
I also noticed that an old post (I don’t use them often) had links which worked when I created the post but were not working today.

Thank you for your help. -
Linking isn’t working for me at all. Whether I’m using basic HTML invented in the 90s, or using their little link button, WordPress isn’t working.
It might have something to do with the fact that they are constantly reformatting every aspect of their software, which seems completely psychotic to me, as they had a very useful product to begin with. I regret having given them any of my money, and I feel like I hate their guts with a blind rage I have not experienced before.
WordPress, please allow people to make links. For crying out loud.

I too am unable to create links using the WP link button. I click it and get nothing. Please advise. This is annoying.

alexjsquire, you’re entering the HTML into the visual editor tab. If you want to enter functional HTML, you need to use the Text editor tab. This particular functionality has never changed, but the HTML tab was renamed to “Text” recently.

For those who are experiencing problems with linking, could you please let me know your:
– browser and version (i.e. Firefox 16.0.2)
– platform and operating system (i.e. Mac 10.6.8)
– link to the site where you’re having troubleIf you’re not sure about your browser and OS, please go here:

uribg – I tried clicking the links in this post – http://uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com/2011/10/27/go-native/ – but they don’t work as they have a duplicate “http” at the beginning:
http://http//www.uri.edu/cels/ceoc/RhodyNative.html
The links in this post – http://uribotanicalgardens.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/getting-back-to-my-chores/ – worked fine for me when I clicked them.
