likes from bots

Is there any way I can block a specific address from liking the posts on our site? Their Russian address is completely inappropriate for our blog: http://www.sexy.hifodedent.ru
Although we receive very few likes to our posts, I’d like to know if there’s any way to block this address from commenting or liking without deleting the ability for anyone else to like a post. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There is an existing thread on this topic (like spam from Russian sites) where you can add a list of usernames that you are being spammed by and WordPress.com staff will take a look at those accounts: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/like-spam-from-russian-spammers
Here is some general information though regarding likes and comments that may help you to control what happens on your site:
It isn’t possible to remove likes or prevent someone from liking posts (or comments), however you can turn likes on or off for individual posts or pages.
You would do this by clicking on ‘Sharing’ in your post/page editor settings menu, and checking or unchecking the relevant boxes.
With comments, you can manage these to some degree. Unlike post likes, comment likes are either enabled or disabled for your whole site. If you enable comment likes you can also add a users email, name or username to the Comment Blacklist which will prevent them from liking comments. This blacklist is located in the Discussion Settings page, near the bottom.
To prevent comments from certain users you can add rules to the comment blacklist. However if you are receiving comments that you believe are spam, and they are not being caught by the spam filter (Akismet), it is best to mark them as spam to give Akismet a chance to learn how to work better. You would want to make sure you have modified the comment settings so that you have to manually approve comments before they appear on your site.
I hope this helps?

Hi there,
We’re aware of the issue and working on getting these spam likes blocked. Please subscribe to the thread @timethief and @karetlattfield linked to above for updates on this.
Also please note that blacklisting does NOT apply to likes, not even comment likes, and Akismet does not filter likes either, so there is nothing you can do from your end to block these.

Yes, thanks, I subscribed to the earlier thread yesterday after hearing from timethief. I’ve learned a lot since then! If the spam continues I’ll turn off likes, but it’s quiet at the moment so I’ll see if any fixes turn up. Thanks for your message.

Turning off likes will prevent those likes from appearing on your site, but people will still be able to like your posts from the Reader and from notifications. We haven’t seen these spammers use those channels yet, though, so please let me know if you do decide to turn off likes and still keep on getting these.

I’m getting lots of emails telling me that various bots with very silly names @ outlook dot com are following my blog. They don’t show up in my real email followers: it bothers me that this spam (if that is what this phenomenon is) can even trigger an email and when it does that I can neither see or block them. This intermittent issue seems to be election related, in my case. https://fionaradic.wordpress.com Had another flush of them last year.

That is a different issue than is being discussed in this thread.
The random @outlook.com email addresses that have been following you are spam. We are working on blocking those, and at the same time removing the ones that make it past our filters as we detect them, which is why they’re not showing up in your followers list.
You can see more information in my reply here:
