Languages button

  • Hi! How can I make a button at the top of my site to link to my site in 2 additional languages? I.e. a button that takes me to the Spanish site and one that takes me to the Italian site. Thanks !

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello @pangearetailrevolution,

Your website http://pangearetailrevolution.wordpress.com/ is currently set to private and I’m unable to view it to provide suggestions on adding a button to take users to a Spanish site and then to an Italian site. Do you mind setting your privacy settings to Public temporarily so we can assist?

Alternatively, there’s an easy way to add a Google translate widget to your site so you don’t have to create multiple websites in different languages.

Just go to My Site(s) > Customize > Widgets
Then choose a Widget area you’d like the widget to appear and click the Add a Widget button. Find the Google Translate widget from the list and click to add it. Type in a title if you wish and be sure to press Publish in order to save it.

Here is more information about translating a single website: https://en.support.wordpress.com/translate-your-site/

I hope this information helps! Let us know if you need help placing the widget or have further questions :)

  • Hi! Thanks for your suggestion! The only thing with the widget is I need to be able to modify the translation a bit since it is not exact or grammatically correct in every case.

The button I want to be able to make is like the one in this page https://lamaleva.com

If you know how to do that, I’d appreciate the help.

    Thanks again!!

  • Hello again,

I see what you mean regarding the translation not always being 100%. Totally understandable. :)

It looks like lamaleva.com is using a theme called Stay, but it doesn’t appear to be an active theme for others to use now. Their theme allowed them to add those text links & Reserve now button in the header (top of the page) with widgets.

What theme are you currently using? Does the theme include a widget area in the header? Or does it have at least 2 areas for custom menus in the header? If so, you can use either of these options to add your translation site links similar to the example site you posted.

If it helps, here are some themes that are free and have multiple menus where you could have one menu be your main navigation and the other menu can be used for links to your Spanish and Italian sites:

Alternatively, if you have a Premium or Business account, that would open up the possibilities of using the custom HTML widget and styling that with CSS to appear on the page where you need it as well.

Since your site is set to private, I’ll need to know what theme you’re using so I have an idea of the options available to you. I may be able to provide some custom CSS if your theme doesn’t have a widget/menu option in the header and your account allows CSS customization. Let me know if I can help further :)
