Just how secure are private blogs?
-

IMO the real question ought not to be directed to the wordpress end of things. WordPress is secure. The real question is: how secure are you?
Who has access to your password(s)?
Do you have “users” with varying roles on your blog? And are any of them co-administrators with you?
Is it likely that anyone who is now accessing your private blog will become someone you don’t want to in the future?
Here’s some info on private blogs http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/08/04/private-blogs/

HTH and happy blogging! -
Tell me the blog title, tell me the name of the film in the first post :)
(and it’s not under my usual login)
-
timethief- thanks for the links
mark- well, I ‘m not a hacker nor a cracker but I know a few who are ;)
-

I can’t access secure blogs, fine, but there’s something up with the page saying it’s protected. Yes, it’s only cosmetic; but if any page this site serves up needs to look like everything’s working perfectly, it’s that one.

wank – which browser? I just checked in FF2 IE6 IE7 Opera K-Meleon and they all look good.
-
The text is being clipped off on both ends of the blue message box in my firefox2.
1st sentence “This” is missing at the commencement of the sentence. The line is not centered it’s floated left.
2nd sentence commences with “re logged in … ” there is a missing first word or part of a first word that is not visible within the box.
And at the end of the sentence the “t” on contact which is the last word on the right is barely within the box. -
Barring minor browser differences, I see this in each: http://tamba2.org.uk/files/mark001.png

Okay, I ‘ve turned my blog into a private one, see how it feels. So now, if I find any of the info in my classified entries leaked to the outside world, I will be suing WP’s a$$ off.
I think it’s a fair deal…non?
-
melissanthi – check the ToS before suing. And also if you allow anyone access then what they choose to do with that information in beyond yours and our control.

@melissanthi
Take a deep breath and note that any posts you made prior to “privatizing” your blog that were searched by google and/or other search engines are cached and will not just miraculously disappear. It takes months before they are gone. -
Ohh…I see. Well, thank you for informing me about this, timethief. Somehow I ‘ll survive. ;)

You know, I’m tempted to try Mark’s…
Something that’s password protected is just that – password protected. pick an easy password and it’ll be easy for those trying to get through. pick a hard password and it’s hard. :)
gotta admit though and I’m not trying to put anyone down but i can’t see a general hacker trying to hack someone’s blog.
-
You forget. I have 44 servers (well 49 if you throw in the routers and the backup boxes. Maybe someone I’ll make money off of all that or figure out a way not to have to report it to my ex.) at my disposal. :)
Username would be a pain though. Finding that first would be a pain.
