  I would like a widget in my sidebar which gives people the chance to comment on the whole blog rather than just the individual posts. Is there any?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Not directly

  You can make a Post or Page and then put a link to it in the Sidebar or in a menu (depends a bit on what you want to do) – an call the Post or Page “General Comments” or whatever.
