Inline Styles
-
Am I correct in believeing the use of inline styles are not reccommended? (Banned?)
Somewhere in my dusty memory I recall seeing that things such as adding an inline style for dropcaps (my specific desire) or coloration of sections of text where not allowed.
-
Yes, when adding something like
style=”float:left”
within an image tag, for example, it just gets removed upon submitting. At least, that’s my experience.
-
I hope some style are allowed.
Maybe set the filter to specific css style elements instead of the whole style=”” attribute. -
Please consider allowing users to have inline styles–I ran into problems with using Flickr ‘s Blog This function, as it sets inline styles in order to create the layout.
Without the inline styles, blogging directly from Flickr, looks really bad: http://lilitu93.wordpress.com/2006/01/07/wanna-know-a-secret/
I can’t be the only one who wants to blog directly from Flickr, so please either consider allowing inline styles or giving us a way to, say, define some classes that we can then put in the Flickr blog template manually.
Thanks!

Myspace was hacked through inline styles:

We plan to enable some to allow people more formatting flexibility but it’s not currently a high priority.

OMG a Microsoft product getting hacked! I’m SHOCKED! Well… not really.
But thanks for the reply Matt.

Yes, style=”Float” should be included. Otherwise, pictures surrounded by text look to crowded, e.g. http://ballistic.wordpress.com/2006/01/17/laborioso-proceso/. Is there another way around this so it looks better?
-
OK, that post’s changed, but this is a good example http://ballistic.wordpress.com/2005/11/29/mis-15-posesiones-mas-preciadas/.
-
So, is there any way to include an offset Flickr photo in a blog post? I’d like it in the top right, with text wrapping as necessary. Can that be done on WP.com?
-
As a more secure alternative, how about allowing classes only?
For example, I notice the “global styles” contain classes for floating left & right. The ability to make use of these (without them being stripped out by the editor) would be a huge benefit – otherwise there is no control at all over image placement.
P.S. If MySpace can fix that hack, sure you can too :)

At present all you have to do to float images is to place “align=”left” (or right, center) within your image url.

*shudder* Have I woken up in 1990’s? ;)
Ta for the tip like – I had assumed that was *more* likely to be stripped, being “wrong” and all. Anyway, any ideas about the padding…
-
I can’t speak for all the themes but the one I’m using (andreas09)it isn’t a problem. The padding is added and appears to be about 10px. But that will vary from theme to theme.
-
It’s a shame this can’t be standardised across themes. It could easily be added to the Global Styles, but as different themes use widely different names for the containers (e.g. Hemingway uses ‘story’ vs. Kubrick’s ‘post’) it would be very difficult to apply.
There’s something else to do: write some standardised theme-block naming conventions.
